That looks like a 4002. I recently met a former Tour Stringer that has one. The bad part is the electronics are broken, it's supposed to be one of two in the US. The other is in the Video Drak posted a while back.

What's the difference between a 4002 and a 4502?

The base clamps and turntable. The 4002 has standard lock out base clamps.
The 4502 has electromagnetic base clamps, extremely easy to work with!

Maybe it was a 4502 I saw. It was in pieces, but it did have electromagnetic clamps.

That would probably be Julian. He owns one that is unfortunately broken. However, he still strings on tour. I believe he may be the head of the Yonex string team, and also strings with P1. Real nice guy.

That's him, I saw it in the floor of his shop. It was in sorry shape. I was talking to him, in maybe trying to fix it, even if it meant reverse engineering the electronics. It's a shame to see a machine like that just sit around like that.

Too bad the machine is in bad shape and Babolat no longer provides parts/service. These machines are awesome. Much better than the ones that replaced them.

Here are some photos (poor ones) of a Babolat Star Machine that I found on CList but the price the guy is asking is pretty unreasonable:

^^nice pics.. Thanks for sharing.

Did the listing give the condition of the machine? and whats the asking price? Problem with those machines is that parts have been unavailable for a long time, so if it breaks down, you are out of luck.

I have photos of a friend's Exclusive, but I need permission from him to post them. Also at the time it was missing the string clamp and base. Which he has now. I'll post them as soon as he gives me the OK.

Holy F$%&!!! cRaZy!!!! I've seen one year old Baiardo's go for $3,000, and you could buy a Star 5 for about $3500 Brand new with warranty.

Perhaps the seller is thinking of it as an antique? LOL.

It was $12,000 more than 20 years ago. I can get a Star 4 for that price and still have some $$ left over.

LOL That was my first reaction as well. Yeah the only way he may be able to get that price is from some sort of collector who considers it an antique...but I don't see that happening. How much should it reasonably go for?

Yup. You could probably get lucky and get a Star 4 for under 2k.

I think they were like 6K. Not sure. The 5502, 4002 and others like it were around 30K.

I got my then roommate to buy a Star from the country club tennis director where I taught in '90-92. Boss had a crush on the Prince rep lady; so he bought a new P200 and sold the Star for a grand...1990. Still runnin'...a little temperamental, but runnin'
