Default Federer popular than NFL, Cricket and Golf stars in Australia..

http://www.news.com.au/sport/tennis/...-1226553010019

poll that ranked the Swiss tennis ace the most admired athlete in the country.

For the third year running Federer upstaged our football, cricket and swimming stars in a gemba Asset Study (gES) which surveys Australians' attitudes and opinions towards more than 200 Australian and international sporting icons.

Federer, was humbled to have out-polled the likes AFL superstar Buddy Franklin and Test cricket captain Michael Clarke to be voted the most popular athlete in Australia.

Doesn't mean everybody likes him everywhere. It's just a biased poll.

These polls are put out by marketing companies associated with organizations that want to send a message replete with spurious data.

There is no way that the result means anything other than that the survey was conceived to obtain a result.

There is a never-ending succession of these purportedly objective studies that pop up and spread throughout the media as fact when they're twaddle.

And this is twaddle.

I wonder who votes on these surveys, I always thought AFL players were the most popular athletes in Australia.

Anyways here is a list of the most popular which includes Federer, Nadal and Stosur, and least popular athletes from the survey.

Just because you don't like the results, don't make up conspiracy theories.

Time to change your thinking then and accept the data.

This is the same crap that's spewed everywhere I guess. Someone who didn't vote for say Obama upon hearing that he won, calls the whole election a sham.

Do you mean a result, or a specific, desired result?

If it's the later, what do you base your claim on? Do they have some in-built bias towards him for a reason - sponsorship or commercial relationships for example?

This is not a conspiracy theory.

It is a well known trend by all industry insiders and reported on by academics and media experts.

Moroever, newspapers are sacking journalists and there are more journalists in the spin trade than elsewhere.

A great deal of what we read is rewritten media releases.

So do a bit of research and you won't be so gullible.

If research is not done by a scientific body for objective research purposes you should immediately suspect it.

C'mon man, what do you want an international body of nobel laureates to conduct a phone survey?

It's a frickin survey of a statistical sample of people about their sporting likes and dislikes. You have nothing other than the dislike of the results to go on to discredit it. So shut up.

How the hell is Fev on top of the disliked list. He hasn't been relevant in a long time.

No, But its a worthless piece of rubbish dressed up as research to fool people. It shouldn't be written, read or otherwise circulated.

Where did the OP say its "research". All it says is that it's a survey. Again, the only reason you diminish it is because you cant stand Federer and it offends your sensibilities to see that a large number of people do in fact like him.

A survey is a research method and Federer is my favourite player as well, but the survey is rubbish.

If Federer played tennis as well as people do research and write newspaper articles then I could beat him.
