Default Has anyone ever tried to mold his own grommet set?

Specifically, I have a few PC600's, don't feel like paying $50 for an original TK-52 grommet set, and would rather not use new grommet models instead. So has anyone ever tried to mold his own grommet set? What material would the mold be? And the mixture for the plastic? Thanks.

Why not???

What's wrong with the current grommets? THEY FIT YOUR RQT, NO?

Let me guess... you're one of those 3.5-4.5 players who thinks that few less grams in the hoop will lower the SW of your MID frame thus altering your swing path........thus making you loose points......

Hilarious.......

Actually no I'm a little better than that. And I think the cost would be lower than even buying currently made sets. Also, I think it would just be fun. Thanks for not helping at all, though. That works too.

You can still get TK52 CAP Grommets in matte black here at TW for $4.99. That is far cheaper than trying to manufacture mold and then making a set of grommets yourself out of a plastic nylon type material.

1st set of injection molded ones would cost you in the region of $80,000.00 - $150,000.00. The ones after that would be just the cost of material, but you better do a lot, so you do not pay the machine setup cost every time.
Let us know how did it go

I did. Many of my vintage frames have broken grommets. So took off the broken ones and inserted the individual nylon grommets which I made from gel ink pen refills. I scraped the refills with a knife to make it just fit for the grommet holes, cut it into pieces , heated one end of these pieces and push this end to make the pieces nail-shaped.

To undertake your project wouldn't be cost effective. As for ink pen refills....these are available on this tennis site for purchase:

This can also be something to consider along with tubing.

I have thought about doing this for my HGE. Simple, 1 piece strip in an aluminum mold. Use some soft-ish plastic resin (similar to a 2 part epoxy). Drill out the grommet holes on a drill press when it's done, and then heat the strip with a heat gun to install. I'm pretty sure I could get it to work. Haven't got the shop setup to do it yet. Maybe in a few years.
