Default Is Federer's 2009 FO win empty?

I'm not going to argue the legitimacy of the win - that's 100%. He beat everyone in front of him including the Nadal slayer in straight sets fairly easily. But we all know that until he beats Nadal at the FO, he will not feel complete.

He didn't beat everyone that easily... his match against Del Potro and against Haas were very disputed... both he came back from 2-0 deficit.

Speak for yourself. I'm totally chuffed that he won a French Open. The thought of who the opponents were, does not keep me awake at night.

I meant he trashed Soderling in the final pretty easily. The one against Haas was the one that he almost truly lost.

He trashed up Soderling, like he did almost every other meeting they had (except from next year French Open). No one was going to take Rog down that time. Not even the '09 Nadal, who had just lost a Clay Final against him in Madrid.

Not Delpo, that was 1 set all.

You're correct, I've messed up who won the second and the third.

He did it by reaching a record equalling 4th consecutive final though.

Indeed, however we certainly do know that the mere fact that Fed won the FO does keep OP awake at night (along with that relatively recent shock at Wimbledon last year, damned roof and Rosol!).

His only hope left is that Nadal has another miracle in him - http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=387729

No GS win is empty.
Especially if you take in consideration the fact that these are best of 5 matches and the competition is 2 weeks long.
How many straight wins does it take to win a GS?
seriously troll thread

Considering that no-one in world history ever beat Nadal at RG and then went on to win the tournament, does that mean that every RG win since the beginning of time should be asterisked?

That would leave Nadal at:
Slams: 4 legit + 7* (RG as per your specs)
MS: 17 legit + 4* (MC since it's become optionnal)

Not too shabby still, but I guess that would make him drop from tier 2 to tier 4 (ie behind Djokovic at this stage).

It would have been a sweeter victory if he beat Nadal in the final, but it isn't an 'empty' win.

He fought hard to get to the final, and owned Soderling when he got there.

You're forgetting that in NONE of Nadal's FO victories did he beat Nadal.

Nadal therefore has zero FO titles?

Most of his slam victories is nothing more than empty, but this one heads the list.No question about it.

You go through your half and beat the guy that went through the other half. Nothing empty about it.

Yes quite a bit. Everyone knows there is 0% of his winning had he played Nadal. His French Open win will never be mentioned without Nadal's defeat which was essential to any hopes he had of netting his elusive RG, whereas Nadal's U.S Open win which ****s try to downplay will never mention anything other than his utter dominance of the event.
