Default AO 2013 R64: Federer-Davydenko

Anyone else looking forward to this match? The biggest question mark is Davydenko's form as he's been inconsistent as of late. If he's on fire, we might be in for a good one though.

Looking forward to it sure, but Federer will win in 3 pretty easy sets.

Sexi in straights.

Davy will do well to make double figures in games.

Even if Davydenko is on fire, the question is will that be good enough against Fed.

At the 2012 US Open, Fed reached a record consecutive 34th Grand Slam quarter-final. I see him making 35 at AO 2013.

Fed in easy 3 sets.

Points.

Rogi is on it. Seeing Murray/Nole/Sexi clash next week is going to be epic. Shame there's no Ralph.

I didn't say Davydenko would win in that scenario, but we would have an interesting match with good shotmaking.

Nah. I think you are giving Roger too much credit and Davy a little too little. Roger's only playing his second match, and the surface suits Davy's game very much. Maybe you are trying to jinx him because you fear the semifinals? just kidding, I think Davy could very well make this interesting if Fed's not on his game.

Fed in 4.

I think when it comes to show up,it deppends more on Davydenko. For Federer it could be a tough match but also one of the easiest matches possible.
Davydenko can go on a roll like he did against Ferrer in Doha but also on a bad run like he proved against Federer here a couple years ago losing like 13 games in a row.

i'd be impressed if Davy got 1 set to a tiebreak.

I'd also be impressed if he won over 12 games.

You guys really are selling Davydenko short.

At Doha a couple of weeks ago he didn't lose a single service game during the whole tournament until playing the final against Gasquet. He's that good. The big question is how his fitness is going to be.

Federer won't make it in straight set; it'll be either 4 or 5 sets, but I'm leaning for Fed in 5. Either way, this could turn out to be a beautiful match to watch. Clear your schedules.

Very good mate.

Just calling it like I see it Joeri - I've seen live what Metronome Davy is capable of - but he ain't laying a glove on Roger tonight. No more than 10 games is my prediction.

This is what I was thinking. He was on fire at Doha up till what, the final?

(I know it was best of three, but still ...)

Also, I never breathe a sigh of relief that FedError didn't show up till *after* the match.

There was a brief moment in time when Davy was able to beat Fed. That time has long since passed. Prediction: pain.

until the 2nd set of the final, then something happened. Gasquet upped his game at the same time that Davydenko started making mistakes. He also had an MTO (his hip i think). It was a fun match though, both very competitive.

I agree Davy is a solid player, but you have to realize that he's not the player he was several years ago. Even 3 years ago coming off that epic 2009 WTF, he lost to Fed in 4 sets. What makes you think this match is going 5? I just don't see it. I see Fed in straight sets, something like 7-5, 6-2, 6-4.

In all seriousness, I see Davy at least taking it to 5. 7-5 2-6 6-4 1-6 7-5
