Its just ego. It will always be that way with Macenroe. Commentary is a soap box for John.
My favorite commentator is Wilander. He the only one I have seen that goes deeper than shotmaking and percentage play. Wilander take it to a psycological level that other commentators ignore. A casual fan of the game would not understand most of the things he says. I do have a fondness for Carillo. Her point of view on the progression of the game is genuine and she never seems to be pushing a product/player/image etc. Also a mention to Vitas. He was a great commentator and probably my all time favorite. Interesting, analytical, no ego, and fun! He was the best. He really made you want to go out and play the game after watching. |

The McEnroe's have the name and all the current commentators have to have a recognizable name as a player..One thing i couldn't stand about the McEnroe's was how they referred to players ranked over 75 as "journeymen" Someone must have told them how silly they sound..I also didn't care for MJ Fernandez or Pam Schriver but they have improved as have all those commentating now to an acceptable level..Darren Cahill is my least favorite..Chris Evert has improved a lot,,Wish i could hear Boris Becker
