After this tourney Ferrer will be at least #4 in the ATP rankings.

wow. granted I only saw the last half of the match but I don't know that I've ever seen Ferrer play that well. The ball striking was crazy good from both sides but Marcos barely made an impression on Ferrer.

Folks, you are forgetting that in recent times, he's taken a set off Novak, and beaten the pants off him in the WTF. Federer guarantee win is absolute...but while Novak can easily dispatch him, Ferrer can beat him.
That said, I still think Daveed's out, but don't make it like it's automatic. This isn't Federer. |

Just finished watching it off the DVR. Ferrer, solid as usual. And sneaking in to the net more to shorten points - worked well for the most part. Baghdatis felt the pressure, couldn't hang, and opened up the UE faucet.
He may make the SF (although Nishikori is 2-1 H2H; Ferrer is 4-1 on Tips) - but I don't see him beating Djokovic. The WTF match was more a product of Djokovic being shot at the end of his big year.

Tipsy has to get by Almagro first. That's a five setter if I've ever seen one.

+1. Could be an epic. Would be ironic if Nico won and then finally shed the demons and beat Ferrer.

I pity the ticket holders for the night session yesterday, both matches were horribly one sided. I taped the matches but the outcome was so obvious for Shara and Ferrer that I ended up skipping most of the recording. Big disappointment in both cases.

Did you see the first half of their USO semi (before the officials chased us out of the stadium because of the weather)? I've had friends who are fans of Novak (it's their only fault So depending on what the weather decides to do, I wouldn't count all your chickens.

The match at USO was in hurricane force wind. I can't see that happening at AO. Still, Ferrer will give it his all as usual. Personally, I hope Nishi gets through. Nishi/Almagro and Nishi/Djoko would be a hundred times more interesting and less predictable than Ferrer usual grind fests vs opponents with whom the script is already well established. Nishikori and Ferrer are two different balls of wax.
Ferrer and Djokovic are two of the same exact player with one difference. Djoker has put away weapons from anywhere in the court. Ferrer has to set you up. Ferrer and Federer's script is well established, and Ferrer and Nadal on clay is established. Anyone else, it really isn't. As Veronique said, Djokovic HATES wind, and it doesn't even bother Daveed. That match could be really interesting. |
