Oh, yeah? So Michael Phelps breakfast of a stack of chocolate chip pancakes, 3 egg sandwiches, grits, and an energy drink, is preventing him from reaching the highest level?

No, he drinks energy drinks throughout his 5-hr training day.

What kind of energy drinks though? There are good kinds and bad.
Point is it's not Coke during a race. |

Clearly you do not understand basic nutrition. I suggest you research IIFYM or Flexible Dieting and educate yourself.

Pal, I study this stuff far more stridently that anyone that thinks drinking Coke and eating a candy bar is good for you during a grueling tennis match.

That would be my guess. Years ago I was at a minor-league baseball game, and the stadium was designed in such a way that fans could lean over and talk to the pitchers as they warmed up in the bullpen. One of the players had gotten himself a cup of coffee(!) and I was teasing him about why wasn't he drinking Gatorade or some other sports drink. His answer: the caffiene "enhances my performance."

Coke is actually as good as most so-called sports drinks when diluted down - which Monfils may have done. A drink doesn't need to have a sportsy name or a picture of a sweating athlete on it to be legit for use during sports.
During the 80s many tennis players drank watered down coke as their in-game drink. I grew up doing it and, when short on a better alternative, still do sometimes.

When a fat guy drinks coke there's a problem. No so with Monfils, especially in the middle of a 4 hour tennis match. I highly doubt he needs to bother about the nutritional value or fear of getting fat.

I would love to see someone crack open a beer (didn't murray take a sipof someone's beer once though?)
I always used to kind of dislike Monfils for his dancing and his 20 falls during a match and making more drama over it than a premier league football player... but my lord did he play some good tennis in that Simon match. I realise I quite like his game. The French - artistic but inconsistant.

I dunno what this guy keeps going on about...Many professionnal cycling teams actually bring coke along with their water bottles and other drinks. Here's an old report on cyclists drinking coke during the race.
http://www.sportsci.org/news/news9711/martin.html Basically, it's not as big a deal as you're making it out to be. You're ranting on like Monfils was sitting on the couch pigging out on coke and pork rinds or something

Full of sugar, caffeine and better tasting than Gatorade! What are you people? Nutritionists? Who cares. Finally I guy who doesn't dump funny, blob of some kind of mixtures into his mouth and tries to hide behind a towel!

If you have too much caffeine it's considered doping at the Olympics.
