Haha the guys we played weren't that bad. One hurt his leg and couldn't really move. Plus my partner hits bigger than I do.

Mclovin,

You're right about Seinfeld. For instance this is how I imagined you guys greeted topaz over the weekend.

Sorry to intrude on all the tennis-related playoffs and tournaments, but this week has been a sad one for baseball: no one elected to the Hall of Fame, Earl Weaver passes, and just today Stan Musial, AKA Stan the Man, died. He was my dad's favorite player on my dad's favorite team. Lifetime average: .331. Amazing player and a humble gentleman.

I'll mourn with you, X. Indeed, a sad week for The Game. Weaver was the consummate AL manager. I loved his Kick the Dirt routine. 'Course, he had a helluva pitching staff to make it all (generally) work.

I'm just a tad too young to have seen Mr. Musial but everything I've ever read or heard about him was 1st Class. An entire career with the same club, interrupted only by (noncombat) military service at the end of WWII and married to the same woman for seven decades (yikes! I love my hubs...but 70+ years with him? Doubt it LOL). All of that independent of the stats he put up: almost 2000 RBIs, almost 500 HR (475!) and a lifetime BA higher than .330. Granted, I had to look up the actual numbers but they are truly impressive.

Really makes me glad the Hall put no one in this time. How could any of this crop have measured up to, well, Stan The Man?

Lots of yellow in this tournament, and I like them all. Even ASICS has some cool stuff on Monfils, sleeveless kind; I like the all yellow and the black with a big yellow A. Haven't seen any of the AO stuff in TW yet, though.

He hit a legit .331; he wasn't one to leg out a bunch of hits, but just about everything he hit was a line drive somewhere. Had a corkscrew stance; hurts my back and legs just thinking of it. Sweet swing, though. One of the few Cardinals this old Dodgers' fan admires, although I played bridge with a kid named Hornsby in college who said his uncle was the famed Rogers Hornsby. Old Rog was way before my time, though.

I will be married to the same woman 43 years this June, so we have a ways to go to match Stan the Man in that department. Got it all figured out, though. We spent our 25th in Spain, where our son was born; plan to spend #50 there, too, and Zeus-willing, #75 also. Always plan ahead, I says.

Yeah, Palmer, Cuellar, and McNally would make a lot of managers look good, but ol' Earl could find ways to win with run-of-the-mill chunkers, too. Davey Johnson learned quite a bit from him, I think. Good to see there are others who still enjoy America's pasttime. Great game, even when it's played by millionaires.

Man, downs is fast:

Oh, and good luck in the finals (even though you're probably on the court right now).

I went 2-1. Our team was 2-1 after yesterday, and had no chance to play for the finals (Montgomery was 3-0, 9-0 in individual matches), so most of the team went out & got plowed last night. Our captain was still drunk on the court (I made him play: If you can't do the time...). We lost 1-2, and ended up 2-2 for the weekend.

Downs' team played @ 5 vs. Montgomery for the championship. Their 4.0s are 4.5 ringers, and one of their 4.5s was moved to 5.0 (like Vinnie), so it should be an interesting match.

No Necktie sighting (he was on a different team).

Watching Kuznetsova playing Wozniacki, and Kuz looks a lot thinner than the last time I saw her. Guess she got fitness fever. Not helping her much in the second set, though.

Topaz won her match yesterday. Didn't play today. Don't know if we are advancing or not yet.

Downs was in a win-win situation in the final since he plays on both teams. Still, he played lights out tennis and won the '4.0' court 7-5, 7-5. But MD took the other two courts. So downs wins! And loses! And...gets to go to Indian Wells!

McLovin, it was nice to see you today! Hope you had a good match tonight!

So downs is Penske material?

I soooo like skipped the 90s. I never watched a single episode of Seinfeld...and only one of Friends (apparently a fairly famous one...the Toll House Cookie episode). I never got either show.

so it was a good weekend of tennis...that va beach facility was pretty sweet if you like tennis and drinking beers...our team won our bracket which setup an epic showdown against my other team, Montgomery county, in the finals...our 3.5s lost fairly quickly against a really strong pairing...on my "4.0" court we had a crazy tough battle...it was semi-intense, and fun at the same time -- since we were all friends...we took that court to even up the match 1-1...so it all came down to the 4.5s, who lost to a strong pair in a 3rd set tie-breaker...
