Oh, right.

I hate modern tennis. I hate monfils. "I'm capable of some of the best shotmaking ever, but i'll just push the ball"

There should be a rule requiring someone to come to net in the first 50 strokes of a rally. If nobody does, they're both disqualified.

I literally laughed out loud at this. You can't even blame slow courts. At least Nadal and Novak were gunning the ball in the final last year and their defense is unreal. This is the worst pusher garbage ever.

Such a shame Simon wasn't able to reproduce this productive tennis against Murray.

As someone just said, one long rally out of, say, every 20 points is OK, because it is unexpected. But when you have many long rallies in the same match...you start to get bored quickly.

Even in the fastest indoor carpets in the 90s, sometimes there were some long rallies (look at Sampras-Becker 1996 WTF final), and they were "great" because they were "rare".

They were great because they absolutely covered the whole court, and had variety, not "I hit at you, you hit at me".

That was pathetic. No aggression whatsoever.

Lack of ability to put the point away.. There is NO REASON for a 70 shot rally.. Even today. These guys need to adopt a different strategy for gosh sakes

On the 7th shot Simon should have taken charge of the rally and ripped it. A low paced slice that didn't bite through the court. He still took it inside the baseline but rolled a softy back across the net. 2 shots later he had a backhand nearly at the service line and did nothing with it. That match was horrible to watch. I fell asleep right quick.

Since nobody is actually paying attention, I'm just going to repeat my last post word for word

I'm pretty sure they were both dead tired at this point. I think Monfils had blisters on his hands and Simon's legs and knees were shot

Hahaha that is the PERFECT comparison. Just check the Gael Monclown thread for emphasis.

That point was at 6-4, 4-4. Anyway, why prolong the pain?

That winner by Sampras to get the point was amazing. It also somewhat reminds me of this Nike ad from the 90's:

I don't think speeding up the courts will help in this case...

True. They would just choke up on their racquets...
