Vanderbilt has been disappointing over the last 2 years with the recruiting classes they have had.
I'm not sure if Vanderbilt offers any mens scholarships at all or if it is like one or two? The players I know there got nada and I remember them saying they aren't funded or aren't fully funded, can't remember. If that is the case, they are recruiting guys that want to go there way more for school I would imagine and aren't focusing on tennis at that point. It seems many are just using tennis as a way in nowadays, then sorta let it go when they get there, versus really being into it.

I don't knowabout any of that. When Ken Flach their last head coach ran the team they were NCAA runner-ups and had great teams, one which featured Bobby Reynolds for a few years.

Nicholls State beat SMU. Pretty shocking considering SMU gave Texas a pretty good match.

I was somewhat surprised at Pepperdine's line-up, too, and would expect them to move it around this week. Tearney and Fanselow sometimes have switched off 1/2 over the last year or so. They will lose very few points at 3/4 this year, whoever they put there. 1-5 this is a very good line-up and I won't be surprised if they are the best team in the LA area at the end of the year.

Top 16 stays the same though Texas jumps 6 spots and Tulsa down 7. Northwestern up 4 and Michigan State up 5. Fresno State down 19 and will fall in the next few weeks as expected - New rankings

One would think the rankings get better with a few matches under the belt. These are awful and only a little better than the last ones. There's a team in the top 24 that might be 50th in reality.

I am rooting for Northwestern wildcats, best team in the country at the moment.

This is what I dislike about weekly rankings so early in the season. Teams need 8 or 9 matches under their belt to really see how they are doing. I also wish that the conference matches were mixed throughout the season rather than just at the end of the season. Too many 7-0 or 6-1 matches. There are top 20 teams playing their normal line-ups against fairly weak teams that would struggle against the 5-10 spots. This is why as the season goes on that guys at the #5 and #6 spots crack under pressure because they have not had to deal with it. This is the time of year when you take a guy who is #5 on your roster and play him at #1 so he knows how to deal with pressure when it is needed.

It is actually nice seeing ranked teams playing each other so early in the season. Those are teams who want to improve their programs and tennis in general, not just worry about rankings.

I agree, there are going to be some teams that are going to find out real fast that they have no business being in the top 25 and will be lucky to stay in the top 50. The ITA Kick-Off Weekend could prove to be an eye opening experience for quite a few teams.

5 and 6 players aren't more prone to cracking under pressure than any other player. Also if one team's 5 and 6 players are cracking that means the other team's players aren't right?

The best way to improve your ranking is play other ranked teams. Playing a bunch of unranked teams doesn't help.

i think they'll do a good bit of shuffling during the season and ultimately hemmeler will be focusing on dubs later in the year...maybe a chance that semenzato doesn't adjust to the college game quickly as well, always tough to tell until they play some big dual matches...i just have a hard time seeing tahir on the outside of the singles lineup considering the way he has stepped up with some bigtime results in the past 6 months
Semenzato didnt play again last weekend, but is still listed on the roster on the website. Anyone know what the story is?

He can't play in any matches or tournaments until the Spring semester starts at Duke. I assume he'll be playing this weekend for the ITA Kickoff.
