I've got 2 of Kal's X-Plats waiting for me at the post office - can't wait to try them!

put it this way... it's everything i liked about the x, the dual, and the pro all mixed into one stick...

as far as comparing the the silver there is no comparison. the silver is lighter, and more powerful by a long shot. the x-platinum is a heavy beast at 330. it swings easy though as most of the weight is in the handle it seems. very agile at the net, and beautiful playing.
Kal-El How does it compares to the K90 in the feel department?

Thanks!

i've had kind of a love hate relationship with wilson. the k90 was one i did enjoy a hit with, though i liked the kps88 more. It is a different kind of feel. The K90 is thin, not as thin as the thin donnays, but close. The pro one swings like a normal beamed racket, think radical or prestige, but has the feel of the thin beamers. The feel on the pro ones are very, very good. I prefer the feel of the pro ones. A little more access to power, and no loss on control. Plus the extra juice i got on my serve just pushed it over the top

2. The Prince 2009 Rebel: This is a close call. The Donnay has a better stock feel with the leather and solidness of the frame. With about 8 grams of lead, the Prince stick rose to the challenge, but the feel of the Donnay was superior.

3. The Prince 2012 Rebel: Same as the 2009. If find that the specs I have now with the Exo3 ports gives me more HL advantage, more spin, etc, but again the Donnay outperforms stock.

Overall: The Donnay is a superior stock frame and customization is easy because of the grommets and but caps. When I posted about them 2 years ago, there was not much interest. I was actually trying to sell one really cheap, but no interest. I think this racquet will inevitably be the one that got away because it is a great frame. I looks gorgeous, and plays like a soft and solid players racquet.

Thanks a lot, this is such good insight ! Your comparison with the KBlade is very useful, too, cause I play with them lately. Will probably buy 1 of those platinums to fool around with

However, I really still don't understand the listed 295 SW !!

i think 296 sw is a bit low, but it does swing light as most of the weight is in the handle...

I think I'll have to drop Kal an email because I'm thinking in the future I'll be looking to expand my Donnay's to a thin beam 16 x 18 or whatever Donnay has in a 16 main racquet - just to check it out. And I'll want to buy some grommet sets for my X-Plats

In the meantime the X-Platinum 94 is SUPERB! Think a POG Mid but easier to swing in an 18 x 20 stringbed, with about the same spin potential, about same power, far less vibration when hitting, better control than a POG...

I'm pretty impressed with Donnay. I think the more people try them, the more we'll see them on the courts this summer.

They are that good IMO!!!

So had a 2 hr doubles match this aft. What a racquet...made my POGs, which I love, seem big and bulky.

Groundstrokes and volleys were powerful and precise. Serves had a lot of spin but not the velocity I like - have to work on that as the racquet just slices through the air so would increase racquet head speed = faster serves theoretically. I did hit 5 aces so that was pretty damn nice. Most of them were spin related though, not scorchers.

Wishlist? More open stringbed, perhaps 16 x 18. Other than that, it's perfect.

Arm comfort? Perfect. No wrist or arm strain even though I hammered a few groundstrokes and tried to hammer some serves.

Fantastic stick, thanks Kal!

I put the 10g buttcap in the racquet. Yes it's heavier but the head swings effortlessly and RHS seems higher. can't wait to hit with it.

Any one try a 10 g cap in theirs yet?

Default X-Plat Grommets

Does anyone know where I would be able to get grommets for the x-plats?

try http://www.donnayusa.com/shop/ and ask them what grommets work. Kal knows but I forgot what he said.
Congrats on getting the X-Plats - amazing sticks!

Kal

we have discussed the platinum before I dont know if you remember but it was when I was deciding whether to purchase one or not. Well been playing with it for about a year now and my impressions and questions are as follows.

Preface: previous racqs were all prestige mids from the flexpoint to the latest innegra.

Increased topspin for sure. My shot really jumps off the court now and the angles are just insane. Beat many higher ranked players with it. Less depth on the slices though and on defensive shots. Which is unfortunate. And against hard hitters face a problem redirecting their shots if they are hugging the baseline the shots that is.

So what I want to know is whether it is due to the thin beam of the dual x platinum mid as compared to the prestige or is it the weight difference.

I am asking this as I see the 330 grams unstrung x platinum you have on this thread and I am positively intrigued by that.

I wish I had a chance to play with the xred as well as I have only heard great things about that. When you have the time I would appreciate a reply. Thanks ever so much.
