murray has yet to play anything approaching entertaining tennis and has been related to day matches as organizers worry his style of play will send TV audiences racing to the remote to spare themselves.

Murray yet to play any kind of decent opposition too. I wonder if these two statements are linked causally. Hmmm.

He's been somewhat fortunate with the draw. I'm sure his level is dolid though, I figure Fed might win a set

He only dropped one set en route to the final in 2010, and that didn't work out too well for him unfortunately.

Hopefully if he does reach the final, he'll have more luck this year.

It would be incredible if Murray beat Federer and Djokovic in straight sets...Federer and Ferrer? Possible...

I think what people tend to forget is that Murray in the last 5 years has always played well in the Australian Open (notably the first week) and often very rarely lost sets till the QF/SF...

2009: Won all matches in straight sets till losing

2010: Won all matches in straight sets till SF (lost 1 set)
Draw included: Anderson, Isner, Nadal

2011: Won all matches in straight sets till SF

2012: Lost a set in R1, but won all matches till SF
Draw included: Harrison, Nishikori

The pattern is pretty clear, he gets through the first week (just like this year) with the minimum of amount of energy. It's only till the SF does he start to lose a couple sets.

If Murray was getting to the Roland Garros final with straight set wins then it would be more notable but it shows these matches in Melbourne for Murray shows that he's quite comfortable on this surface in the heat.

He lost a set in the QF to Dolgopolov. So actually, he's only achieved this once before, in 2010 (Rafa retired in the QF).

Murray has served well this tournament so far that's helped him get some comfortable wins and short matches!

Isner has the second best serve stats in the world and it's helped him to take on the worlds best players in his own terms and come out on top while avoiding the gruelling long rallies!

Who has he played though? People went on and on about Novak's easy draw but the fact that I can't remember anyone Murray played makes me think that his was the easiest.

I shudder to think of what you would consider poor opposition. Noone inside the top 200, maybe?

yep. But this strikes me as a very calm Murray who took a monkey off his back,
1st slam.

okay he might not have played like tomic or any of those guys but berankis is a nice opponent and he had to play chardy who took out delpotro 80% chance of a straight sset win against fed 99% chance to win if murray in 2006 a little boy can beat peak federer thenLOL

1. He was 19. Not a little boy.

2. His straight set win over Federer in 2006 was about as impressive as Chardy straight setting Murray at Cincy last year:worthless. Both Federer and Murray bounced back from those losses and won the US Open 3 weeks later. Seriously, horrible ****-logic.
