Default 2013 ITA National Indoors Tournament - Seattle, WA (Feb 15-18)

I'm opening this thread for general discussion of the ITA indoors, but more specifically, I'm soliciting any requests for questions/comments/whatever about player gear. I'll be stringing the event, and I'm willing to take measurements/provide tension/string information IF a frame comes through my (or my team's) hands.

I am also seeing if I'll be able to live stream some of the event (the stringing "room") if anyone's interested, please let me know.

Since this is a general discussion thread, please title your gear related posts with [GEAR] in the subtitle when you post, so I can search and respond quickly/easily.

Note: Not all teams string through the host stringers, and there are two sites, only one of which (hopefully) I will be working at. Some teams never actually go through my site, but if anyone's REALLY interested, I can try to get the records from the other site.

Edit: Best I can do is tension/weight/balance readings.

I would be extremely interested in stringing videos, and info on strings and string tensions! Thanks so much!

Don't get your hopes up too high, the stringing room is very ad hoc

I got a green light to stream. I'll have to do a few test runs at home in the next week or so. No idea how the internet connection will be, but if it's acceptable I'll be running a webcam and monitoring the chat. I'll post a link when the time comes. If you have any requests (viewing angles, specific techniques you want to see, etc), post in the chat and I'll drop in to say hi once in a while.

That's awesome. It would be great if you could do that. A chat option would be very cool. As far as angles I really don't care. I would prefer better video quality with a "lesser" angle than a great angle but bad video quality.

But I won't be picky any type of stream with chat would be great.

I'm going to move stringing discussion to the stringing/machines sub-forum, I'll leave this thread up for event discussion. I won't be checking this thread (much, if at all) during the event, so any gear requests/measurement requests should go into this thread:
http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?p=7203527

Cheers

Great idea!

It would be interesting to know what percentage of college players customize their racquets.

From the past few events, I'd say the percentage is surprisingly low. I'd wager less than 20% have any customization on the frames, although many players seem to not care too much about the amount of layers of overgrips (which can end up adding significant weight). I see minimal lead taping, and I've seen a handful of paint jobs, but that is very rare. Again, though, some teams don't string through the on-site services (traveling stringer, maybe?).

Default UVA is going to win the NTI and win it big.

I am rare poster here, but follow college tennis and UVA tennis closely. UVA will finally win the NCAA's as well. USC has owned us for 4 years, although we played them close a couple of times, but with Steve Johnson and Daniel Nguyen gone, USC is not nearly as good. I think only OSU has any chance to beat us and Rola and Kobelt have to win for that to happen.

We have four legit top ten players in Domijan currently tied for #2, Jenkins #4, Styslinger #7 and Mitchell Frank (#2 after end of 2011 season) who is now healthy after a knee injury prevented him from playing in the fall season. Freshman Ryan Shane (Justin's younger brother) is ranked #22.

We have three different outdoor All American and/or National indoor individual title winners in Domijan, Frank, and Jenkins. No other top 10 team has even one such player. Ryan Shane will likely play 5 and Justin Shane 6. Last year's #6 Julen Uriguen probably will be listed at 7 or 8 along with freshman Harrison Richmond.

I seriously doubt any college team has ever had 4 top 10 players on one team. Does anyone know if this is true? I know it has not happened in the last ten years.

I predict four UVA wins each by 4-0 scores, but we conceivably could lose a doubles point, even though we do have three doubles teams ranked in the top 10.

Anyone care to dispute this bold prediction?

I look to cardinal to upset Virginia in quarterfinals.

Glad to have another UVa poster on here. Some of us Hoo fans on here, also frequently post on the Sabre (I'm Hoosbro on there). You should think about checking out that site too.

I like your prediction, but I just can't see it playing out this smoothly.

I think Domo, J, and Mitchell make one of the best top 3's in recent history. Justin Shane at #5 or #6 is great and I think Mac will look good at #4 and hopefully be successful, but I think it is way too early to instill a ton of confidence in Ryan Shane.

Consistent and reliable doubles pairings may also take a bit longer to develop.

One other main point I want to make is that by the time May rolls around, there are going to be numerous teams that have pieced together top-notch lineups and are ready to roll. UCLA, Ohio State, Pepperdine, Duke, and USC are 5 teams I think may have the ability to beat us. We will probably have to go through 2 of these teams in the tournament.

I love this team and the talent we have, but a lot of factors go into winning a title. I just hope we peak and can control all these factors come May.

Keep posting!

I am 1969hoo on the Sabre and I love that website. I posted pretty much the same thing there.

I have not seen Ryan Shane or Mac Styslinger play yet, but based on some who have, they both have big games and are very talented. There are some other very good teams this year, but I remain convinced that this year we are just way better than any of them. I freely admit that we were not nearly this good in the last 4/5 years.

Also, it helps that USC's Steve Johnson is no longer around to ruin our seasons. He is now ranked 154 and moving up. I think can reach the top 50 and maybe even higher. I am going to the NCAA's for the 6th straight year and I have never been this optimistic about our chances. You should try to make the trip to Urbana. It is a great event, as long as your team stays alive.

Stanford? I guess they have some free time this weekend to do a little road trip to watch the tournament.

I just read that post on the Sabre before coming here. I thought to myself, this sounds familiar haha. I would've responded on the Sabre, but it gets a bit too saturated with similar responses sometimes.

From what some wrote about Ryan Shane against North Florida, they talked about how big his game was, but how he struggled at times mentally. For me, it's just tough to go into the season completely optimistic about his potential. I could see him like a freshman Shabaz, where it takes longer to develop his big game.

I really wanted to make the trip last year to Athens, but it just didn't work. I've already been talking with some friends about making the trip to Urbana. Hopefully it plays out.

Wow 6 SEC teams and 5 are in same half with 4 playing each other first round
Also why did they flip FL and Ole Miss in the draw?
