I know Musial was pretty much the Ted Williams of the National league though. Had he not recently dies I would have probably never thought of them though (probably like most people). I think the Cards stadium at the time has pretty big like 350 plus down the lines. making the triples a little easier to manage.

I would have guessed Willie Mays but I dont think he ever hit for that high of an average.

Thats has to pretty much be Musial I think of anyone else.
Bingo. You know your baseball.

Stan the Man it was, in 1948. Cards didn't even go to the Series that year (Bob Feller's Cleveland Indians vs. the Boston Braves, "Spahn and Sain, pray for rain"). From his first full year in the league (1942), Stan had 16 straight .300 seasons, and never hit less than .330 between 1948-54. In 1962, at 41, he hit .330. And old Sportsman's Park, where my dad took me to watch Cardinals' games, was one of those old timey big, big ball parks - 351' to LF, 422' to CF, 354' to right-center, but just 310' down the LF line. Browns played there til 1953, when they moved to, ta da, Baltimore and became the Orioles. Life magazine annointed Stan the Man the best player in MLB between 1946-55. He was, literally, The Man.

I could cheat and google this, but that wouldn't be cricket. Knowing your proclivities and recalling our frequent baseball-centric conversations, I would guess either Bags or Bonds. And since there are only 2 triples in this season and Bonds in his younger days could run like hell, I would guess Bags.

Ain't baseball fun? Pitchers and catchers are not far away, my friend.

$ $ $
check out the western sky financial commercials on tennischannel!
they don't have to abide by us limits on interest charged so any sucker needing cash fast is skrewed.

gotta look up my indian name on interwebz now:

Bags it is, but oddly enough Bonds only had 1 triple in 94 the infamous Strike year. He put up those numbers with 50 games left to play.

He was averaging more than an RBI a game, so 180 RBIs may have been in reach. as well as 55 bombs.

I was going to put up George Bretts 1980 season stats next. Then I got to reading about the year and they had players born that year. noticed Mark Tiexera was born on the same day to the year as me. Now Im upset becuase that guy was a total bumb and just seems like a huge A-Hole.

Damn, you boys are fun. I knew X's (only 'cause I'd gone looking at his sad passing last week)...and was with him on his assessment of HW's return. But I googled both to confirm.

Pitchers & Catchers: mid-Feb. What a Valentine's Day present!

Side note: if you get SI, there's a full-page ad from the Bud folks that brought me to tears: Big '6' on fabric background with the title "The E.R.A. in Heaven is about to go way up." No other adverts on their part other than the logo and a "Thanks for the Great Times". In an issue with with sports "hoaxes" (Te'o & Lance), they still devoted 3+ pages to "The Man" (with another 2-column short on Weaver and described him as the Mozart of managerial ejections...LOL).

Damn, I miss The Game. I just lost it all with the 'roid rage. I'd much rather have sat through an "almost" no-no...then seen so many balls jacked outa the park.

Two Damns in one post. I'm certainly waxing sentimental.

HA. Checked out Xis Bum and came up with Apenimon Nahiossi (Trustworthy One with Three Fingers); I presume that refers to Jack Daniels since I don't drink scotch. A little rye on occasion, but never scotch.

Checked out my real name and got Langundo Kajika (Peaceful One Who Walks Without Sound). Y'all tell me which one fits.

Kinda partial to Nuwanda from Dead Poets myself.

Saw that SI, and the tributes to Earl and Stan are classy and wonderful, as is the Budweiser ad. I still won't drink their beer, but I will toast the gesture with a Guinness or Sam Adams.

And a tip of the old tam o'shanter to you, Ms. Queen. Not too often do we guys find a woman who appreciates and understands what some of us still consider the National Pasttime. You rock, sister.

How much snow you guys supposed to get? Just cold and dreary here; settling in to watch one of my all time fave movies - The President's Analyst. Movie is older than most of you guys. LOL

buying before demo makes this kemosabe a very poor indian.

but 65 bucks for a Wilson 2012 Pro Tour BLX seems like good deal in the middle of the west. and a thinner, heavier, denser, blxpro to boot! but since these racquets were never distributed to other shops, me thinks they are unsold KPRO Tours repainted.
dunno... got 2 in the cart right now. but not pulling the trigger.

guess i don't need em... sigh
