Talking Finally played at Indian Wells

About 1 month after the tournament. Courts had been resurfaced ~6 weeks previously. So new they left blue paint on the balls. Hot as a monkey's behind but it was really fun, plenty of water on the courts, had a blast.

Also took a tour of the stadium.

Is it hard playing with that big black spot on your face?

That's actually a small black hole I was partially sucked into awhile back.

Nice...that looks like court 15 or 16. Interesting to see the bleachers not there. I played on court 11 at IW. How was the surface?

Those were practice courts during the tournament. You could still walk between them during the tournament, but you couldn't access the side to your right during the tournament.

It would definitely be fun to hit on those courts. I'd like to do that at some point.

Here's another pic:

We played on court 18 which is down one (toward the mountains) from these girls.

The courts were slow compared to the ones I usually play which haven't been resurfaced in 20 years, yes. I liked it, everything moved a bit slower and the balls bounced higher and the rallies lasted longer. It was great.

I'd love to play there every day if I could. Just a little too hot in the summer.

EDIT:

What's interesting is the courts actually have a little purple in the blue which isn't picked up by the camera.

Another thing I liked was that the green backstops which you can see in the photo are fabric which is stretched a few inches in front of the concrete behind it. So when a ball went past, it would hit the fabric and drop straight down and stop, it wouldn't roll back into the court. Great idea.

And also, the people in the pro-shop were super cool and friendly. Really a class-act.

Ive played in that court in the picture, aswell as the one to the left of it. They are right in front of the club house. Ive also played on one of the small stadium courts.

I need to find my way into the main arena now....

Thanks for the review. Cool to know.

Is this arranged through one of the local hotels? Did you ask about playing on the Stadium Court? Impossible or just expensive?

Nope you just walk on. $10 a court per hour after 2PM. I was shocked. In the summer it's even cheaper.

I didn't inquire about the stadium court but I'm guessing it's nearly impossible. We had a tour and they didn't even have the net up.
