Over the whole tournament there's no doubt he's the deserved winner.
Congrats to him and his fans. Murray had to win this in straight sets to have a chance and could have got the second when Djokovic was 0-40 on his serve. Even then I still think Djokovic might have pulled it back. Great champion.

I discussed something like this in another thread. It was actually can Djokovic surpass Federer and reach 18.
I thought it was possible although unlikely for him on one condition. That is Murray has to retire. If he's in the picture then I think no.

I take it from your avatar you'll have an extra big spliff to celebrate tonight?

Yes, Murray had the golden opportunity to break and possible 2 set up at that point. He would think about that tonight in bed for sure.
You just cannot let Djoker wake up and play with his game. He is not great tonight but Murray was too passive. No being able to create many break points and not taking the offensive on the rallies when needed. Djoker deserves the win. No the most exciting game imho. |

Yep, congrats to him. He won another Slam and added to his ever growing tally. That's what the game is all about.
He's looking good for the rest of the season now. Roland Garros is now a definite probability and maybe the other 2 Slams as well. Unless someone ups their level to match him, who's going to stop him?

Joker would never have won if Rafa had not withdrawn.
Joker needs to send thank you cards to Rafa and Uncle Toni. Sad state of tennis. Sadness all around actually.

Indeed, congrats to Novak Djokovic! He's the king of the Australian Open right now with 3 straight titles and 4 titles overall to match Andre Agassi and Roger Federer.
I find it kind of cool that Federer, Nadal and Djokovic all have their Grand Slams. Djokovic owns the Australian, Nadal owns the French and Federer owns Wimbledon. The US Open is the only one that seems to be up for grabs every year but I have a feeling Murray will stake his claim to that title again this year.

Congrats to Nole indeed! 3 in a row, 4 total and who knows how many more? He now has the same # of slams as Edberg and Becker. With this win, he is confirming his status as best hard court player on the tour.

Oh ok my replay is finished, the match really didn't go as I expected. Bit disappointed with this year's AO to be honest. |
