Since 2012, I think Djokovic has worked on his volleys, and now they are noticeably better. Probably on par with Nadal, and definitely better than Murray. I heard a commentator say the same thing in their match in Shanghai.
This has to be bad news for Murray, because volleys used to be the only thing that he did better than Djokovic, and now Djokovic does it better!! Do you agree? |

Djokovic has improved but Murray still has better hands/touch/feel than he does.

Murray does a bunch of things better than Djokovic, volleying is only one of them (and still is).

Djokovic volleys are.....awful, seriously. Very few current players know how to volley, and Djokovic is not one of them.

Murray and Djoko are both adequate at net. Neither is real good. Both would be better players if they attacked more. Watch the 4th set tie-breaker in AusOpen 2012 final against Nada. Leading 5-3, Djoko had 2 points where he was inside the baseline, nailed a drive deep into the corner, had Nadal scampering 10+feet behind the baseline and Djoko retreated both times. Nadal hit weak floaters to reset the point and Nadal went on to win both points and the 4th set. If Djoko had come in on both of those points, 99% probability that he wins the 4th set and Djoko would have never had to play the 5th set. Same thing in Djoko victory at Wimby - he let Nadal get away with the 3rd as Nadal played 10 feet behind the baseline and looped the ball.
Djoko won both of those matches in spite of his unwillingness to attack. |

Murray has better technique and timing on volleys. Though Novak presses with good approaches and willingness to volley.
Novak isn't natural at the net like Federer, Llondra, Stephanek, Murray and most dubs player. Just solid enough to finish points.

No he doesn't Murray is comfortably better at the net. Murray is one of the better volleyers in the top 30, Djokovic would not even make the top 10. Djokovic does approach the net more than Murray and occasionaly even comes in off a serve a lot more than Murray in tight moments.

When he is so good at the net why he plays no doubles?
Murray is great at the net.

Andy Murray isn't as aggressive as Novak Djokovic that's the real difference between them. Novak's a more offensive kind of player he's not just waiting for an error like Murray he counterpunches too much.

Djokovic's weaknesses are:
- low balls on FH - volleys - slice - overhead smash Murray's weaknesses are: - second serve - dropshot They both cannot hit tweeners and backhand smashes consistently. |
