I have hit with college players and challenger level players, and as someone said before, it is the weight of shots that is what kills amateurs. I am a very big guy, and I have trouble making solid contact with my ground strokes and volleys are a nightmare with their spin. It really makes me appreciate the beauty of the top pros game because I know how hard it is to play like that.
How are you still a 4.5 if you can hit 125MPH serves??? Most guys I know that play in that range would have a lot of difficulty with that! Just teasing of course!

I have seen a lot of 4.5 players including ones that won nationals this past year. I have yet to see one that can hit a 125 mph (let alone one that does it routinely). If you really have 125 mph why are you still at 4.5? the rest of your game must be like 4.0? I have seen pro matches where serve speed is posted and some matches have guys that rarely break 125 on their serves.

Maybe this video can help defining the difference between pro's and (skilled) amateurs.
Italian Eurosport commentator, Federico Ferrero, lefty amateur player with a decent game, I'd say something around a 4.0, plays a 10 point tie-break against Andrey Golubev. It was december 2010, Golubev reached his top-ranking of 33 atp october that year.
The score was 10-1, the only point of Ferrero was a winner (and maybe lucky) half-volley (following his second serve!). But it's not like he couldn't touch the ball during play, he even made a couple of not-so-bad slice returns.

Hope it's interesting
Interesting, but the amateur looks better than 4.0 to me probably 4.5+. The pro doesn't like he is trying very hard at all.

Wow suprised those 2 guys got 3 points off him and 2 of them looked like from return of serve errors? How good were these average joes? Would have been nice to have a behind view rather than a side view of the playing and to see full points.

behind view wouldve been tricky. filip was a bit too keen on aiming his warmup overheads at the camera crew to scare them before the tiebreak, so I didnt want to take any chances.

thierry is now a teaching pro (was ranked in the top 50 in Quebec in U1; he doesn't play matches that often anymore but still hits pretty well. I played high school in Norcal, hit often with ranked juniors and do an open tournament once in a while.

the fact that we were two on the same side probably made filip go for more on the return. if he floated one back we probably could have poached and put it away.

Wrote an accompanying article about the video here: http://indecentxposure.com/grind/ef4...bdd0b57377f17/

Doesn't seem like they would win many points.

Andy Murray needed only 51 minutes to beat Laurent Bram 6-0 6-0 6-0 when Great Britain's played Luxembourg.

Bram who quit professional tennis four years before, won only 15 points in the rubber as Murray recorded his first whitewash in a best-of-five-set match.

The guy obviously didn't play as much as when a pro but this shows the huge gulf and how difficult it is just to win a point.
