Anyone who's dating Redfoo should be automatically stripped of her ranking.

Notice the frosty handshake at the net? I think Li Na let it be known what she thinks of the AO Champion.

you could just mention the 2 slams and the yec and that would be enough for me.

Fair assessment. Azarenka has modifed her game from her early days to actually use--and not be afraid of--the entire court. As much hype as the scattered Kvitova recieved for claiming she admired Martina's performances at Wimbledon, she lacks the full court understanding and use. Azarenka was supposed to be nothing but a ball basher, but she's taken control of her game and expanded it. She knows that is the only way to have an edge over the competition.

Will never dominate grass or clay, but could win 1 at each sometime in her career.

Agreed. I'm not sure if she's complete enough--at present--to win Wimbledon against a healthy Serena, but she will eventually win a title there. She's no Seles or Henin--two players who had assbrained approaches to that surface and against those who mastered it.

Quote:
Yes she is a legitimate #1. While she needs to beat Serena in a big match to gain full validation as the best player...
No argument there.

Definitely what the WTA needs, and the rightful heir apparent to the great Serena Williams.
We will see. Of this new generation, she's the only one suited to win several majors, as Kvitova needs a shrink, Bartoli needs to dump Dr. Bartoli, and Woznicaki is a joke in need of a dream draw.

Serena's FO record as of recent years is not so hot, and that generally is her weakest slam. Add to that the injury she picked up and uncertainty of how long it'll take to recover, get back in form, etc. only adds to my opinion that she's not winning the FO. I'd favor anyone in form heading into the tourney. I think Azarenka could win it, Sharapova again, any of the good clay courters (Schiavone, Errani, etc.). I think these are people that are safer bets to go far and consistent in the tourney.

I thought Vika only played OK today. She can play better.

Against Serena, Vika may struggle except on clay. Obviously, Serena has the best serve, but once past the serve, I think Vika is a better player.

Other than Serena, I think Vika can beat them all. Sharapova on a good day has a shot.

But, Serena will be tough at Wimby. I don't see Serena losing unless she is injured or someone plays lights out.

You don't say "not a chance" with any of those other players, but you go out of your way to use the phrase to use it in describing Serena, even though none of those players have won more French Opens than Serena has, and some of them haven't won it at all. I think we'll agree to disagree.

Being number one isn't just about winning meaningless titles it is about standing up to pressure, fighting off opponents and winning slam titles.

I wasn't sure last year, because plenty of players win one grand slam and that's it. I think it to be a real champion to be a real contender a player needs to win 2 slams or more. It just makes the player more special in my humble opinion. Winning one slam can be a fluke, having a special moment or a good draw.

But the ability to rise to the occasion and win a second grand slam singles title says a lot about a player that she is for real.

I wasn't sure if Victoria Azarenka was for real but she confirmed it by winning her second grand slam title today. This is huge for women's tennis. After all the crap with the slamless number ones, the WTA finally has some stability. The rest of the women better watch out and that includes Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova. Victoria Azarenka has proven she's for real and she's a fighter. Victoria is better than Maria she's a real athlete she trains hard, she moves well, she has variety in her game, she can volley well too.

I expect Victoria to win more slam. Not sure about the French Open because clay is Victoria's worst surface and she's only won one clay court title in her career. But the other three slams Victoria is definitely a legit threat.

The only thing Victoria needs to work on is her serve, her serve isn't big enough I feel she's a big strong girl almost six feet she should be serving over 110 mph or higher.
As long as she can take those medical timeouts for choking. Good to know that choking is now a medical condition. Tightness of ribs. I've never heard of ribs getting tight. They are bones right?

Luck had nothing to do with it. The ATP Brisbane tournament prior to the Aussie Open saw AZA ready to face Serena. She backed out because of a claimed 'toe injury'. If she had have faced Williams, and most likely lost the match, she would not have had the #1 seed in the AO..... No luck there at all. Coupled with the 'rib injury' against Stephens makes for one poor sport. She's a flake.

Um, no.

Victoria has beaten Serena ONCE and most of their matches did not come down to Serena simply serving better.

Also, Serena's record as a player is vastly superior to Victoria's.

Hard to sell that Victoria is the better player, LMAO.

Now you're talking!!!

"The two ladies are bobbing and weaving on either side of the net .... Azarenka's eyeing Serena Williams warily while Williams has her steely intimidating gaze fixed squarely on her opponent ... Azarenka trying to use her height and reach to keep Williams at a distance reaches over the net and throws a flickering jab that Williams brushes away ... Williams counters with a jab of her own and another jab ... Azarenka is starting to howl .... Azarenka flicks another jab and follows up with a short right cross which ,,,,,, "BOOM!" ,,,, Serena staggers Azarenka with a crushing left hook to the ribs!!! .... Azarenka cannot breathe!! .... she's now trying to catch her breath!! ... Azarenka appears to be choking!! .... Azarenka's now calling for the trainers, looking to take a MTO!! .... Williams fires another left hook "BOOM!" .... DOWN GOES AZARENKA!!!...DOWN GOES AZARENKA!!!...DOWN GOES AZARENKA!!!....the chair umpire continues the count '7...8...9...' .... it's over!! ... it is all over!!! .... Serena Williams knocks out Victoria Azarenka at :32 seconds of the 1st round! .... Azarenka is still out cold!!! ... she's just lying there unconscious, farting and howling in her sleep! ..... "

Sorry but any righteous indignation (feigned or not) ain't gonna fly here, mi amigo.

Been thinking that Vika doesn't have to be a popular number 1. Heck, Lendl wasn't the most liked during his reign.

Skinny girls look great in them cute WTA outfits, but naked they're kinda like 12-yr-old boys. Naked, Vika would be more *womanly*.
