There are several popular reels for under a $100. The bigger question is whether or not they're suited for your game, whether you'll like them or not. My suggestion would be to pick one of the highly touted, popular strings and buy a set to try for yourself. Buying a reel based soley off of someone's recommendation is not a wise habit to get into.

I took a chance on a reel of this stuff. For $33.95, figure I cant go wrong. Worst case is I will have ended up wasting the equivalent of a single racquets worth of Luxilon! But, I have a feeling this stuff is going work just fine.
http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Gose...N-GPYL16R.html TW actually just reviewed it in 17g, and it was surprisingly a quite favorable review. http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/revi...Y17Review.html Last edited by Buford T Justice : 01-28-2013 at 03:43 AM. Reason: typo |

Hope it does. It was one of the first reels I bought several years ago (they didn't have it black back then, but same string). If I could get it to fit in my weed eater I would lol. Having said that, there are those who love it; I'm just not one of them. Again, pick up a set of what seems interesting/appealing and give it a go before taking the plunge on a reel.

Discho Iontec 17g Black or Salmon $70 Kirschbaum Super Smash Orange 17 $89 Solinco Outlast 16 $109 all 3 offer fantastic control w/ pretty good comfort and are ~$100/reel, but it depends what you're looking for. Last edited by mad dog1 : 01-28-2013 at 10:58 AM. |

Gosen Polylon is a good one, very durable, and if you hit big with spin, this is a very dead string and absorbs a good bit of power from your shot, but tennis elbow is a certainty if you have a bad swing or serve motion

Would not suggest playing this in a full bed, dies quickly and doesn't really play all that great. Would suggest this as a cross in a cheap hybrid.

Any of the Toura Poly offerings are solid and are well priced.

It's funny you mention Isospeed Baseline as the TW play test mentioned this as a similar string. Chris mentioned he got 2 weeks out of a string bed of Polylon, which I thought was rather impressive.

You can get a reel each of Blackout and Vendetta for >$100!

The tournas are good. I have reels of Blue Rough 17, Silver Rough 16, and Black 7 16 and love them all.
In the winter months, when the heat at my indoor facility in kept at 60 degees though, I go multi mains and poly crosses. All the polys I have ever tried stiffen up too much when it is cold and lose power. Converesely, when it is in the 80s and I am outside on the har-tru, I can string a full bed of Black 7 at 50 lbs and it is amazing. Price is under $100 too. |
