As my mother in law says, if a glass of wine makes you feel less nervous and relaxed and confident in yourself, there have to be some sort of benefits in having it, rather than not, and being stressed out. I wouldn't recommend it after a first round win before playing the second round (my mixed partner did that once and we were totally beaten hands down by opponent!)...

I have performed some ECT reaction time tests before & after 1/2 glass of wine and after a full glass of wine. There was a very noticeable differences in my scores/RT. I performed slightly better after 1/2 glass than before it. With a full glass of wine my reflexes are off quite a bit even tho' I felt fine (did not even feel a buzz). I've noticed the same effects when competing in both tennis and badminton.

In heaven, there is no beer.
That's why we drink it here.

Either medium, I would be happy as a clam by the end of the set no matter if i had won or lost, and by the end of the match I was generally entrenched in my happy place without a care in the world, and had a nice winner/unforced error ratio to boot!

Nah, we're not that old, I'm only 23 and he's 15 months my junior. He and I started employing such methods in our mid teens. We used the methods to ensure that we were both without a care in the world by the end of the match (and during it, as both he and I had awful mental games. I myself have an awful one, I'm super critical of myself when on court if I'm not under the influence to the point where I'm borderline abusive to myself), heavily under the influence of our substance of choice, and without the need to pregame before going out for the night.

I played a mixed tournament over thanksgiving last year out in south carolina and end up playing mixed with a lady I had never met. She was not really a big drinker, but she drank during each match because she said it calmed her. She kept a couple of 12 oz michelobs in her cooler and usually made it part way through the second one by the end of the match. It seemed to work for her though, and we won 3 matches before losing in the finals because we were completely over matched.
