Default Federer to receive Davis Cup commitment award

"This Award is being presented by the ITF to players who have shown long-standing dedication to representing their country in this prestigious competition. Each Award recipient has competed in a minimum of 20 home or away ties or 50 ties at any level of the competition (including Zone Group Events) over their career."

http://www.daviscup.com/en/history/c...ent-award.aspx

Only posting this because I see repeated references to Federer being a Davis Cup sell out.

OK, before the fair minded fans of two other specific players barge into this thread spewing nonsense, here are some facts:

Fed's DC record : 43-15

Nadal's DC record : 22-5

Sampras' DC record : 19-9

Carry on.

Another mickey-mouse award for federer. And out of Rafael Nadal, roger federer and Pete Sampras, only two of those players have carried their team to the title. federer just isn't a team player.

Fed's DC record>>>> Nadal's and Pete's DC records.

BTW. Having a better team doesn't make you a better team player, it just means you have more luck.

It also means that your team sucks if you have such a great record yet your team loses in R1 almost every time.

Heck, if not for the Almagro choke, Spain would be the current DC holders. And Nadal didn't play a single DC match this year haha.

Yes, and that is why Hewitt has already won the award.

It's not a joke. Click on the link and read up on the award and the criteria for winning that award. Federer has fulfilled all necessary criteria to win this award. They won't deny Federer the award because people on talk tennis forums condemn his decision to skip DC ties over the past few years

Then if they don't deny him the award on the basis on many occasion he has said STUFF YOU DAVIS CUP then the award is worthless.

The guy cares less about the DC Swiss team or his own town for that matter. All he cares about is more $$$ and his own fame...

Nadal has given his heart for the Spanish team and he was not really needed all the time. Djokovic has played for his team very injured (remember Delpo match, Davidenko match...)

Fed awards should focus on his game and that contribution to overall tennis, NOT on his "human" side...

You do realize how the Almagro choke you mention completely contradicts your assertion that Davis cup team success has any bearing on individual Davis Cup success?

I love it when irrational posters disprove their own assertions in their own posts.

of course he doesn't play in the world group but it's still a nice record to have !
