Default What if?

I've been wondering, how much less 'grueling' would current tennis be without poly strings?
Keep all other technology, but no poly strings; would rallies be shorter? Would players venture to the net on occasion? Would they hit the ball with that much work involved to win a single point?
Maybe nothing would really change, but as much as I like hustle and scrambling, I loathe the 20 shot rally wear neither player really creates angles and they only try to outlast the other guy.
