Default Murray - I can win Roland Garros

http://www.scotsman.com/sport/tennis...open-1-2775419

Hmmmm. Nothing is impossible, but if Rafa is anything like his usual self then he'll be winning RG - and that's before we mention Nole, Roger or even Ferrer!

I've heard that Lendl genuinely believes Murray can do serious damage on the dirt - I guess stranger things have happened at sea.

LOL. Murray struggled against a 31 year old Federer and he thinks he can win the French, his worst surface?

There are a lot of reasons for thinking Murray won't win RG - his performance in the AO semis isn't one of them.

Incidentally, can a player really struggle if they are never behind in the match?

If he doesn't believe this, why even play it?

We can all have doubts about his ability to win it (and we all probably should), but if he has doubts, that would be cause for criticism. I like the attitude.

Murray has a good attitude, if you don't believe in yourself, you will not achieve anything!

Murray doesn't care about 31 year old Federer, most important thing is that he played in AO final

I find it interesting that he is speaking in these terms. He has spoken openly before about his chances of winning the other 3 slams - prior to this, I think he'd only ever spoken before of 'doing well' at RG.

Someone is telling him he can win it. Someone whose views Murray holds in very high regard.

Well any player who doesn't believe he can win a tournament has no business showing up, especially a top 4 player.

I actually believe he has an outside shot. He would need a good draw, though.

Quite.

The thing is - he's one of only 4 current players to have taken a set off Rafa @ Monte Carlo and he created 18 BP against the Spaniard in their 2011 RG semi.

Again - I'm not saying I agree with him - but maybe it's not that mental a proposition....OK, it is

He would likely need to be second seed and have Rafa, Roger, Nole, Delpo and Berdych in the other half - even then he'd probably lose to Ferrer

Muzza has also elected to stay on the dirt in April instead of Davis Cup in Coventry(can't say I blame him!).

Ivan is most definitely saying: this is your chance, work harder...every match.

Strange to come out with this statement now - there is a hell of a lot of tennis to be played before we even get to the clay season.

Murray really should be better on clay than he is. Weren't his formative years spent training on clay in Spain?

Good to see he has a strong belief in his ability to win.

MC is highly overrated since it lost it's Masters1000 status. Rarely do all of the top 4 show up. So he took a set off Nadal. He still has never won a clay tournament, nor has he even made it to a clay final. The only way he could win RG is if Djoker, Nadal and Federer are all in the same half and none of them make it to the final. I'd say the chances of that happening are probably a gazillion to one.

Bit of a myth this mate. His formative years were spent on hardcourts - many of them indoors.

He was at Sanchez-Casal for just under 2 years from the age of 15.
