The guy had no slams but did make it to the 2nd week of Wimbledon...Ivo Karlovic has the worst backhand in the ATP top 500

This clip alone has so many backhand winners and different angles, spins, pace and depths.

Hardly "barely kept him in rallies" hahah
Of course, but most people are just responding to the Fed-hating trolls. Roger and Pete both have great backhands. I think Fed's is better (definitely smoother) but Pete's is not bad at all.

and, of course, honorable mention goes to any 2hbh players who achieved prominence in tennis world.

they craftily masked their lack of skills by borrowing another hand from themselves...

I would say maybe Goran Ivanisevic and Martina Navratilova, I forgot about Françoise Dürr I think she won the French one year.

I forgot VG won the Australian though it wasn't in any manner a "Major" in 1977 but, yes, his backhand sucked especially by modern standards. He could rally with it (much of the time with a slice) and he could use it effectively to get to the net but he couldn't really hit much of a passing shot with it. But then in that period quite a few players had weak passing shots on the BH side. On the women's tour, could Shriver even hit a topspin backhand ?

Arias had a crap and very weird backhand and he did win the Italian at a time when it mattered more than it does now. But if you want to get into non-Major crap BHs the list is a long one.

I think Fed has a spectacular backhand only if he has to hit 2 or 3 in a row.If some palyer is capable enough to force him to hit backhands repeatedly,He will either hit a winner or much more likely will commit a mistake or shank(his favorite error) it.He doesn't have the consistency of say, a Wawrinka. So first 3-4(if he has to hit in arow) are good but beyond that for the greatest player, his backhand is awful.

you guys are just biased against single-handed backhanders... your loss.

Fed has one of the best BHs in history.. just that it suffers from a matchup anomaly against Rafa. Pete's BH was very weak.

If Fed truly has a great backhand, Nadal wouldn't beat him so easily with 1 simple strategy, pounce on the backhand. Fed's backhand is weak for a guy who won 17 majors. Deal with it.

Gonna take a guess. A video of Federer crushing Blake at the 2006 TMC?

Edit: Nope! I was pleasantly surprised. I love this clip. Although it doesn't really convince me about the greatness of Federer's backhand.

That shot by Federer is one of the sharpest angles for a backhand winner I've seen.

I also like this one by Nadal

I can put a series of Pete's backhand winners and it will look just as good as Fed's. The thing is highlight reels or a result of 1-2 match cannot conclude whether any player has a great backhand or not.

Interesting that you have that perspective on Lendl - on this forum a while back there was a thread that rated Lendl's backhand as one of the greatest single handed backhands in history! No way it was a weakness instead it was both a great offensive weapon and a great defensive tool to.

Fed's backhand is vulnerable against Nadal on clay.

Now, have a look at a match against Nadal on indoor low bouncing hard (WTF 2010): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wp_IJ1A63ss
And a look at a match against Djokovic on clay (RG 2011): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHcDcJfFj78

His backhand is his weaker wing, but only Nadal can **** it.
