Rafa has succeeded beyond his wildest dreams. His plan was to make people think he is slowly recovering from injury, and then win the remaining Masters 1000 and Slams of the year while being the underdog.

This proves that even with a silent ban, it is hard coming back after out for 8 months of competition. Maybe he is feeling his age.

I think that, in a certain sense, what I watched in Chile could be a good sign for Nadal.

A totally rusty, slow, low-energy and very subpar Nadal got the final of his first tournament in 8 months and almost won it.

If he actually recovers his fitness level (strenght, quickness, endurance) he could very well win one M-1000 on clay this Spring and could be among the top favourites for RolandGarros once again.

But that "if" is not granted at all (maybe he finds it very difficult this time to get to the optimal physical shape in time).

Both are equally valid.

What did I tell you? This is part of his plan to show that he is "slowly" recovering.

I predict that he will lose the third tournament to keep the goodwill going.

Anything less than a 100% Nadal against the current Djokovic isn't going to get it done. Nadal needs to be 100% dialed in mentally and fully capable of going to the brink physically. Djokovic most likely is going to be making an all-out assault on clay this year and going for the Grand Slam. If Djokovic is playing on clay in the kind of form as what he showed at the AO and in 2011, Nadal will really have his work cut out for him.
This could be one of the best clay swings ever IMO. Del Potro just won Rotterdam and is also getting his confidence and form together. Murray and Federer are also massive potential scares across the way.

Well regardless, Nadal is still the man to beat on clay. Still the favourite. All eyes are on Monte Carlo. All these other minor clay tournaments mean little. Nadal wants to protect his main turf and that's MC which I think to him is the most important non-Slam tournament for him. He's won it 8 times I believe. Will be interesting to see if all of the top guys including Federer, Murray, and Djokovic enter.

He won't lose unless he's feeling discomfort in his knee and doesn't want to go all out against a red hot player.

Watched the RG final highlights today again, Nadal was so good in that game.

He is so far away from that level at the moment no real surprise he lost to number 79 in the world.

He has to try and get back to that level as I agree with previous posts that if he isnt 100% then he isnt going to beat the other top players.

Not beating Djokovic this time around. Maybe old man Federer on clay though.
