Yeah; King of Kong sounds seriously unpromising, but it's really great...and it's on Youtube.

I enjoy documentaries, but in general, they are so heavily manipulated as to be essentially fiction.

As an example, Searching for Sugarman, which is overall a good movie, elides the crucial fact that he was big in Australia, and had been touring there when the film makes it seem he was just living in obscurity in Detroit; changes the whole narrative, but of course makes for a much better story.

"Gimme Shelter" is a pretty fascinating documentary about that time in history and music.

Yes, very much.

I have now sworn off of supermarket sushi.

Hmm. It may be time for me to actually put the netflix DVD of Gimme Shelter in the DVD player and watch it. It's only been at my house for 7 months... (Saw it years ago and enjoyed it.)

Watched the Harry Nilsson documentary last night. Decent.

I enjoyed the screen adaptation of the bestselling book "Freakonomics". The creative use of animations made it a bit more entertaining than if it was just a straight doco.

I LOVE Documentaries.

My all time favorite is probably "Grizzly Man" about Timothy Treadwell. It's pretty fascinating watching him move further and further from sanity. The guy was completely self destructive and probably did more harm than good but it's still touching in a way how the bears gave him fulfillment. I can't recommend this enough and I love how Herzog never seems to judge. Just puts it out there for us to make our own opinion of Treadwell.

Growing up I was big time into skateboarding (still am) and Gator was one of the biggest names out there at the time. "Stoked: The Rise and Fall of Gator" really shows what rock stars these guys were when vert skating ruled and their swift decline when street skating took over. In the end Gator couldn't handle it and it is painful to watch. I have some friends from that era who are still pro skaters and one of them told me that could have been any of them. He said they were rich, all on drugs, all thought the world revolved around them and then it was taken from them.

The Christian Hosoi and Bones Brigade documentaries are excellent as well but they lack the emotional punch to the gut that the Gator documentary has.

Bush's Brain: How Karl Rove made George W. Bush presidential

Interesting documentary. Karl Rove is not a guy you want
face on the other side.

Not a huge fan of documentaries, but went with a bunch of college age kids to see http://buy.soundcitymovie.com/ a couple of weeks ago.

Rocker Dave Grohl did a documentary about Sound City Studios out in California. The studios were one of the most famous analog recording studios that ever existed. Tons of famous stars recorded albums there. Besides having a perfect sounding studio, they had this monster soundboard. When the studio closed, Dave Grohl bought the soundboard and had it re-installed in his own studio. There, he recorded a new album with lots of the stars that had originally recorded at Sound City (Stevie Nicks, Rick Springfield, and even Sir Paul McCartney, etc.).

If you love music, especialy classic rock, then it's a good look see. I want to buy the resulting CD...

I watched it today.
Really tipical rise and fall story.
How can drugs, quick fame and money make you lose it and kill someone.
Sad story...
