What is the fair price for a 7 years old Prince NEOS 1000?

Someone here in the club is looking to sell a 7 years old Prince NEOS 1000. What is the fair price? I was told the condition is pretty good. Haven't seen it though.

I would say $400 - $600.

If it came with all the parts it was shipped with,including the cover $600. Less if any parts are missing and need to be replaced.

Someone in Boston has been trying to sell one on C*****list for four or five months now. He keeps relisting it at $900, and it never sells. An optimist!!

Some people think they can get what they paid for thier machine. A local stringer is selling a Star 5 with 40 or so rackets strung (so they say), for $3800. Stringing machines are like cars in a way. Once it ships, it looses 25% of value. Fair market value is usually around half of a new machine.

I've seen an open box Neos 1500 sell for $750.

What tools are supposed to come with? I thought it doesn't come with anything, except the allan wrench. ? Is flying clamp included (for fan pattern)?

On the Neos 1000 it varies. The basic parts are two glide bars, two clamps, retension pads, 8M T-Allen, and a cover. Some of the extras that sometimes come with the Neos 1000, are the half glide bars, Universal Floating clamps, Badminton clamps, cabinet stand, etc. More or less it depends on when it was sold.

The Neos 1500 comes with a tool kit, that has cutters, plyers, awl (1 or 2), and a blunt (setting) awl.

A new one is 1200 bucks. I'd never pay more than $500 for one that's 7 years old and that's dependent upon condition, etc.

yea no more than 500. i mean the machine is a beast and will last forever, but 7yrs is still 7yrs

Another guy saw the machine, he said it looks like "new". I guess it is in good condition, or very good condition. The owner is asking for $700.00. Maybe too much. ?

I saw one about the same age, hardly any scratches on it, but the locking dogs were beat up and the handle kept falling off the tensioner. What a crappy design, at least on a Gamma it's held on with a screw.

I bought a less than three year old Neos 1000 in excellent condition in 2009 for $500 which included two flying clamps, the three small brown tools which are part of a Prince kit, an awl, pliers and allen wrench, and 5 or 6 sets of some cheap synthetic gut. It also came with the cover.

The owner claimed it had been used only a few dozen times and based on its condition I believe him. I scouted Craigslist for over six months before finding that deal so those saying they would buy one for $500 or less should be prepared to wait imo.

honestly, just buy a new one. a string machine is not like a car. you wont be upgrading it in 5 yrs or 10 really. it will be good for as long as you are playing

In good condition, I'd say between $500-$600. The good news here is no shipping cost and likely no sales tax, each of which you would likely have if you bought a new one. I suggest you contact tennismachines dot com and see if they have any used Prince Neos or recondidtioned Ektelon H machines (the latter if available (a big IF), would be preferable--the original H is simply better constructed than the current Neos--but having stated that, they are both tanks (my point is if I could get a used Neos for 600 and a reconditioned H for 800, I would buy the H). In any event, that will give you the ball park for a machine in good shape to measure what you should purchase and what sort of good deal the current offer is. I would also note that the awesome deal that beernutz got is rare but available if you are patient.

Zapvor makes a good point on buying a new machine but only if you have the cash--I am not sure paying $1200 for a new machine gives you double the value of the $600 good used machine--but you would have the peace of mind of both the warranty and the fact that it is new. Good luck.

$600 would be a good price point for a "used" machine like this. Given its simplicity nature, I hope warranty coverage is just a peace of mind, not a necessity.
