Default Poly in mains vs poly in the crosses

It seems like the trend is to use poly in the crosses more than in the mains. I am wondering what the practical differences are, especially relating to spin.

I am going to experiment with poly and have ordered some gosen sheep micro, klip legend natty gut (both 17g) along with MSV Focus Hex and Pro Supex Big Ace Micro (both 18g).

I've been a syn gut user, liking the crisp feel with some pop. I would like to keep the crisp feel and pop but add some spin.

Any recommendations are appreciated.
