yea lol so many times he lost with multiple match points or when he had a huge lead like Delpo match at the us open final. Thats a match he never should of lost.

Definitely agree with you there, and the fact that there's only been one match where he's won whilst saving matchpoints is also a testimony to how he's able to finish/win matches without letting his opponent catch up or level with him

IIRC, Nadal did not face MP vs Verdasco @'12Madrid but being up 5-2 in the third only to lose 7-5 against your 13-time pigeon is far from "clutch".

2011 Madrid against F.Lopez? Think he was down 5-6 in the final set tiebreak.

He lost 5 matches in 1 year in 2010 when he had MP's. Those matches were to Baghdatis in IW, Berdych in Miami, Hewitt in Halle(??, not sure about this one, may have been Gulbis in Rome), Djokovic at the USO, and Monfils in Paris Of course, he also lost to Safin at the 05 AO and Djokovic at the 2011 US Open. Those are the ones I know off the top of my head. I don't know of many matches where he's saved MP's and won. The only ones I can think of are the 2003 TMC RR match against Agassi and the one against Olivier Rochus in Halle in 2006. Federer is very good at not letting it get to the point where he has to save a MP or more in order to win. Unfortunately, sometimes he's not the best at closing the deal, as evidenced above. But I could also name you just as many matches where he "should've" lost and ended up winning. But people like to focus on the negative because he's expected to win anyway. And he makes it look easy most of the time so people forget how hard it really is to do what he does consistently.

Nadal had match point against Davydenko in that crazy match in Doha.

I think he saved MP's in that one. That year would be 2003.

Oh yes he did. I kind of answered Agassifan's question. Wasn't relevant to the thread, but still...

So, so far we have 9 matches that he's lost while having MP(s). vs haas AO 2002 vs safin AO 2005 vs gasquet MC 2005 vs nadal rome 2006 vs baghdatis IW 2010 vs berdych miami 2010 vs djokovic USO 2010 vs monfils paris 2010 vs djokovic USO 2011 And 5 that he's won while saving MP's: vs Agassi TMC RR 2003 vs Verkerk Paris 2003 vs Rochus Halle 2006 vs Roddick TMC 2006 vs Lopez Madrid 2011 Excuse this if you don't want to see a boring list full of possibilities, but I'm just looking through his career matches now on the ATP website, and I've found a match against Albert Costa in Miami in 2003 that he lost that went to 9-7 in a 3rd set breaker. I would image he lost MP(s) in that one. He also has had really tight matches against Gaudio, Roddick, and Scott Draper in the summer of 2003, and another match against Lopez in Madrid in 2003 that might go into one of these lists. A close loss to Ljubicic in Basel 2003. A match against Davy in Miami 2004. Karlovic in Gstaad 2004, Hrbaty in Cincy 2004, Berdych at the Olympics, I'm trying to remember if he had MP(s) against Tsonga in Canada in 2009. I think he did since he blew the match after being up 5-1 in the final set, but I'm not sure.

Wow, I had no idea he'd had match point against Haas at the AO, I thought I knew all his "match point" losses.

I thought Fed had match point in the loss to Gulbis at Rome in 2010. That year was disaster in terms of major tournaments lost after having match point after a spectacular start to the year.
