Great advice, thanks! I will work on this.

Use your left hand to drop the rackethead below the ball and only let go once you start with the forward swing. Compare with this vid:

The link jumps to the relevant section, but you should watch the whole video. (You can also find a 2-part series by this same guy, which is good.) Make sure you understand the "power position" concept.

On the forward swing, let your shoulders pull your arm and racket forward.

It also helps to straighten your arm earlier in the swing, before you let go. You'll get a more consistent and powerful swing pretty quickly that way.

Yea... i'm the only one on this forum talking about kinetic chain... ok.
Here's yet an other video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=_m7Aj5eFWaA

It does provide plenty of evidence to support Cheetah's advice regarding a three-step rotation which pauses when facing the net. The player begins to rotate his spine again when his racket side upper arm hits his chest (in more technical terms, there's a combination of internal rotation and protraction which brings the upper arm as far as it can without the player to rotate).

Basically, you should aim at facing the net AT contact and allow yourself to rotate PAST contact and it shouldn't be hard because your chest will be in your arm's way during the follow-through, unless you move.

Ah maybe but I'm no where near as good as the experts on here. Wish I was though, well maybe one day if my post count reaches over 5000 posts or so...

tennis_balla - Looks like a very fluid and dependable stroke, no idea why you would say it sucks.

It is good of you to be honest and admit that compared to the forum master-debaters here, you are but a noob. Scientists have confirmed direct causal relationship between the posts made here and improvements in one's tennis game. However, you need to practice proper tennis posting techniques for your game to magically improve on the courts.

Yes, my swing is so fast lit looks like I'm sitting in my chair, drinking 7-11 Double Big Gulp but in reality I just hit a beautiful 1bh. You have much to learn grasshopper.

There are also select occasions when I see pros, esp. Wawrinka, appear to do the same (usually on deep balls hit right at him).

However, for typical pro 1hbh (and most good ones), the shoulders decelerate through contact while the arm continues moving. That's why the "textbook" 1hbh advocates stopping the shoulders perpendicular to the net (like Federer). And that's why the left hand often flares out before contact. While many pros open up their chests more, the principle is still holding true.

The typical 1hbh is basically a "pull" stroke, like Federer's forehand.

The easiest analogy to this principle might be swinging a long axe with both hands. All the "oomph" takes place well before contact, and the momentum of the axe head is what carries it to the target. Perhaps that's why 1-handers seem to prefer heavy rackets.

On the 1hbh, maximum acceleration of the handle should be achieved well before contact, thus no further body rotation is useful.

No conscious thought is needed to do this on the 1hbh. Just an ingrained body checking motion (left arm out), proper weight transfer, and perhaps just an intuition about "throwing" the racket at the target.
GOAT post!

I'd post a vid but I don't have a camera. If anyone here that lives in or is going to be in San Diego with a camera I'd be happy to be filmed.

... and my backhand is 'understandable' so there's no problem there. lol.

No way, I will forever be silenced and brushed aside. I am no where near their level of masturb.... I mean master debating. I will lurk and learn from the best here. It's an old boys club and we're not invited.
