I saw this string in a comparison tool, when reading the review for Wilson NXT - I use X1B 17g and am wondering, if anyone has used a full bed of this? The price difference between the X1B and OGM is incredible!

OGSM is a monofilament synthetic, not a multi like NXT or X1B. It plays pretty stiff for a synthetic, but not as stiff as any poly. Nowhere near as soft as either of the multis you mention.

Very stiff syn gut. Cheap, cheap, cheap. When my team starts practicing this spring, I'm likely going to pick up a reel of it so that I can offer string jobs for my players. works out to be about $2.40 per string job if I get 16 out of it.
It's one of the best inexpensive value reels you can get. |

It works really great for the first hitting session. Next time you play, you want to cut it out. Now I use it only as a longest lasting cross for some powerful mains.

I really did not care for OGM in a full bed. It works well as a cross. Comparing it to any high end multi, it will disappoint you in performance.

Totally agree with this. OGSM 17 only lasted me 14 games as a full job and I was pleased it broke on me since I hated it.

Plays great the first session. Goes downhill fast from there. I like the crisp feel. And it has decent spin (compared to POSG). I use my reel to test out new tensions on different racquets.

I used that string a while ago, and I liked it better than other basic synthetic guts from Head, Gamma, Prince, Wilson, etc..

Interesting; the specs were similar to the NXT, so I thought it might play similarly. I haven't ventured into hybrid setups yet, but I think I'll stick to X1B for now and hope the price stops rising so much.

Steps:
1. Navigate to this page: http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/revi...T16Review.html 2. Scroll down to the Tennis Warehouse University Lab Review section 3. Wilson NXT 16 (default displayed for this review) -Stiffness 174 -Energy Return 94 -Spin Potential 3.9 4. Compare Gosen OG Sheep Micro -Stiffness 163 -Energy Return 93 -Spin Potential 3.2 5. Just for grins, compare X1B 17 -Stiffness 167 -Energy Return 94 -Spin Potential 2.1

I like the Gosen. It feels slightly stiffer, but it seems to hold its tension best among the syn guts I've used. It's another workhorse synthetic, like Prince Original.

further more, when dealing with something very exact like string specs, a difference of say 2 in stiffness is probably huge. i dont know the ratio, but i imagine its something like a race, where 1second is huge.

I've used Gosen OG sheep 16 & 17ga, moved on to multi's, (X1, NRG, NXT & NXT Tour) then to the poly's BHS, BHBR, Cyclone and so on. Just out of curiousity tried Forten Sweet 16ga and could not be more pleased. It is the most well balanced string I could ask for. The price/ performance ratio has stopped me from looking any further. The feel I get from Forten is something special any it lasts, at least for me.
Very soft so string it high. |

Long, long ago, in the 1980s I used Forten Sweet and liked it, but sometime in the Oughts I tried it again, in a different frame, and was perplexed why so many people liked it. I didn't. I have a reel in my box, though. Perhaps I should give it a go.

Lord, it used to! I used to buy Gosen OG sheep micro from Macy's Sales in Arizona. A dozen different colors: silver, gold, turquoise, blue, red, yellow, purple and so on. I liked the purple best. . . it looked good in my racquet frame plus it had the practical advantage of losing color about the time you needed to change the string, a nice indicator.
