Is Shock Shield the way to go in keeping that same weight and firm feel, but reducing the pain i'm getting in my hand and wrist?

Many thanks
At $3.50 a pop, you can maintain it fresh and soft much longer than $10 leather grip at exactly the same weight. It compresses over time but never becomes dry and hard like worn out leather.
But all this is probably irrelevant to the pain in your wrist and hand. Heavy handle and larger grip size stress out hand/wrist with certain grip and swing styles. Even with relaxed swing, these might cause problems if you don't provide enough angular acceleration for racquet head.

I actually am one of those who uses a fairly small grip and I have noticed I do tend to use my wrist a lot on my forehand shots when I try and whip it.

I put the pain down to the fact that there is little to no shock absorbancy on the handle.

So do combat this hand pain, does anyone have any suggestions or should I try one of these shock shield grips as opposed to the firm leather?

Oh yes, it absorbs shock quite well, due to its mass if not gel elasticity. I'm using it constantly. And like I said, at $3.50 per grip (white ones are on sale) you don't have to wait until it compresses.

That smaller grip size may be encouraging you to have bad technique. I've been pulling off the ball on my forehands lately trying to create too much topspin and I think that has been causing me wrist pains.

You make a good point. Its only since I started really trying to whip my wrist around on these forehands that I have had wrist pain. I'm tempted to try an extra overgrip to increase the size and almost force and train myself not to do that.

Either that or just concentrate on not doing it.

Ive recently noticed that there is a Shock Shield overgrip now available.....I wonder what thats like?

Interesting about the overgrip. I might have to get that one a shot.

Ive ordered one so I will report back. But rather than remove my beautifully wrapped leather grip, I may try two overgrips and see if that helps with shock absorbancy and over working the wrist first.

Only God knows what is causing you hand pain. Yet, from a logical standpoint, it would seem a heavy (or thick grip) with some gel in it would dampen some vibration.

All I know is I've been pleased with the three I've installed thusfar. They are HEAVY compared to any regular grip but reasonable compared to leather. These things are selling for $7 so a cheap thing to try.

If you buy let us know your thought both good and bad.

Well the black ones are currently $7

While the white are half that. I've bought and installed both and the white ones were poor. The did not install well and edges unruly. The black ones were perfect at least the four I installed.

That's interesting. I never tried the black ones because the white ones were on sale. I also noticed the edges were blemished and it was impossible to do a professional looking job. I didn't know the problem was unique to the white ones. Personally, I'm still happy with the white ones. They do feel comfortable, and since I use overgrips, the cosmetics are not a problem for me.

I have both the black and the white.

They are quite similar. Some edges on the black get wrinkled the same way as with the whites.

$7??!? soooo jealous

We get stung for A$20 for Shock Shield, A$30-35 for leather (A$1 > US$1)

Have just installed Shock Shield on the (1st & original!) Profile Hammer,
put leather on another Profile Hammer... Shock Shield definitely does something.

Definitely unusual.....things I noticed:-

- the Wilson BLX racquets have a plastic cutout in the butt cap to slip the start of the replacement grip into
Wilson been doing it for decades. Profile Hammer has it... circa 1990.

I just bought 3 of these in black yesterday. I'll install them in the next few days during my time off from tennis.

I got 2 for $3.50 each for the white ones, they arent bad. I was just glad to get something softer than leather, and they really arent that thick, I was hoping it would be a bit more thicker but it works, so I am good with it.

I was worried with the gel that the grip would feel thicker than the Prince Resi Pros I had on my racket, but it does not. I left the finishing tape off the top because the Shock Shield weights slightly more than Resi Pro. All in all, it feels about the same with better comfort when I hit the sweetspot.

Initially after putting the Shock Shield on two racquets (Becker London Tour and Prince EXO3 Tour), the grip felt larger in diameter. After about 2 weeks of playing it felt "mushed down" to about the circumference of the stock grips. That or my hand adjusted. I'd like to think I'm smart enough to know it's the former.

This was my experience also, which I mentioned in previous threads. Shock Shield feels thicker at first but compresses down over time to where it's tough to distinguish from the size of a stock grip. It still maintains the increased comfort.

Hey guys, is it possible to wrap this grip with no overlap? I like my base grip to be smooth/flat before I install an overgrip. Thanks in advance for any info
