I hear you. Like I said, it wasn't a major concern if you had spoken to ALTA directly or was just relaying what the coach in question said that ALTA told him. It just sounded like you had spoken directly to ALTA in your post.

My being on a tennis team and "knowing how things work" is irrelevant when it comes to writing prose and describing something accurately. Had I been in your position, I would have written "The coach we added to our team spoke directly to ALTA and they told him ....". Just for the sake of clarity and accuracy.

I think the major concern is that ALTA appears to have told 2 different tennis coaches different things.

ALTA didn't put it in writing or anything else like that- they simply told him that this was the rule and he was free to play on an A level team. I have no reason not to believe him and I think that their rule makes perfect sense within the goals of their organization. Someday when you are actually on a tennis team you will have a better idea of how things actually work.

I know the rules inside and out and this is one that I haven't heard of before- I simply thought that other people here would appreciate knowing about it as well.

I don't think that you understand the conversation we are having since that didn't happen. It isn't really your fault since you haven't ever played league tennis but its sort of funny that you keep talking about things you have no clue about.

I think it's sort of funny that someone with your disposition actually runs a "for fun" round robin in DeKalb Atlanta.

Since I am 100% sure you haven't been to my Round Robin and would be very surprised if you had been invited to participate in any Round Robin the fact that you have misconceptions about what kind of person would run one isn't exactly surprising given the rest of your posting history.

Like I said, I'm genuinely surprised someone with your disposition actually runs a "for fun" round robin. I suppose there are exceptions to the rule.

I wouldn't expect you to invite me to your round robin, since it would mean that we might actually end up having to play tennis against each other. And you probably wouldn't want that, since if you beat me, then it would be the expected result. Of course if a 3.0 like me should end up beating you, then at least I'd have a better idea what my NTRP should be (or shouldn't, whichever the case may be).

Nah bruh....they were ticked about losing period. They were reaching. There is nothing about my game that would ever make you think I taught anyone. If the truth be told they were real ticked about their 1's losing and went to google and because they found my name with the other two guys in a money tourney...why not throw my name in the hat while they wer moaning. The fourth guy can't beat me...so if that tells you anything. It's funny in way, but it's also sad when people will stoop to level After getting their @$$ whipped.

Yes, it is sad that ALTA can't tell the difference between real allegations and poor sportsmanship/sore losers. Look at the bright side: it sounds like you certainly made such a strong enough impression on your opponent that he accused you of "cheating" and reported it to ALTA.

I view that as a compliment of sorts. I hope my tennis game progresses enough to the point that others accuse me of "cheating" LOL.

They have because this guy clearly knew we had played a money tourney. I've not won a set. I'm going to break down and try my hand at singles. I had been playing doubles only. I can play the 45's this year so Im going to see if I can catch someone slipping. You get two matches so I can handle the 50 bucks.

(note that this player didn't actually win the $250, only that he played in the 'tournament'.) Even though it was a pretty ridiculous rule we actually asked that our team get moved up from A1 to AA4 just to make sure there couldn't be any "gotcha" moments.

I believe that they have completely removed the "cash tournament" rule from ALTA.

Then ALTA should have seen the complaints from those sore losers for what they were - complaints by sore losers.

Was this in the 18+ Adult section of ALTA or the Senior section of ALTA? Just curious.

18 and up. They were just sour @$$es. I wouldn't waste my time investigating a 5 & 5 match unless I was going to also investigate the other two that lost. Or you have documented proof these guys teach for money. What they really need to do is start charging a 50 dollar refundable fee if the allegation is found to be true. If it is not, then Alta needs to keep the money. That will stop all the BS calling into Alta everytime someone loses a match they don't think they should have lost. That should be 50 dollars per complaint/player.

I think that's a great idea that a fee should be charged with each complaint submitted to ALTA. But I think the fee should be refunded in full should the investigation prove that the complaint was warranted. Just like how NFL coaches are charged a timeout if their ruling challenge failed but are not charged with a timeout if their challenge succeeds.

Yes, I can't wait until I can play in the Senior adult division in ALTA in 4 years. It sounds like they have much better dispositions on average (I suppose with age comes maturity).

So here is the problem with Seniors. We have several people who play on a Sr. Mixed team and a regular mix team. Sr. Mix plays during the regular season at 10am on Saturdays, reg mix plays at 1 on Sundays. Playoffs arrive and first round of playoffs for both leagues is scheduled for Saturday (10 and 1). Our sr. match was scheduled 70 miles from our home facility while the regular mixed was scheduled at home some three hours later. It is impossible to make both matches and we were forced to make a decision to play one or the other. ALTA scheduling forced us out of the playoffs in one league. Can't understand why they couldn't keep the schedules separated.

We are running into the same problem. Fortunately, if it doesn't rain Saturday, we got lucky. We are supposed to play away, but the team we are playing has the same problem as we do (qualified for Seniors and Mixed playoffs) and their afternoon playoff match is closer to our home courts so they agreed to play the Seniors Mixed match at our place.

Well we sure aren't having any problems with that. My Senior team got smoked half the season and finished like 4th.lol The regular team is playing though. My first season of Seniors. One big difference I noticed is more meds on the table. bandaides, wraps, Ibuprophen & stuff like that on the table than food.lol I'm just kidding...it was fun. I was suppose to be the team stud at 44(45 sept). lol I did manage to lose one match in a 3rd set breaker.lol

Although this doesnt directly impact me, I have a real bone to pick with ALTA. Some of my friends had a Senior Mixed playoff match Sunday at 10, 45 miles away. They had a Mixed playoff match 60 miles from their Seniors Playoff Match. The captain of the Mixed team let the Regular Mixed opponent know that they could be a little late since they were playing the ALTA seniors match that morning and a great distance away. The 1s starting playing in the regular mixed match at 1, the 2s got to the courts at 1:25 and the captain of the home team said too bad, you are defaulted. The captains talked to the coordinators and it appears the coordinators were in agreement that they arrived past default time.

First of all, what a way to advance to the next round by making the other team drive all that way and then shoot them down, but more importantly, shame on ALTA for even putting teams in this scenario. 3 hours between different league playoff matches is not very well thought out. I understand that ALTA doesn't give a hoot about USTA playoffs, but their own, come on! You shouldn't have to revise your lineup because of ALTA scheduling.

They're different leagues. Shame on your captain for not making sure he had both lineups covered in case that exact scenario happened.

I've had to deal with that before as captain. Players just have to make a choice, I won't put a player in both lineups and "hope" they can make both matches.

If I was in a tight spot and had to overlap lineups, I would have had email correspondence from the opposing captain agreeing to a later start time. Then you could send that to ALTA instead of them telling you to pound sand.

I agree that they are different leagues but do think that ALTA should plan a little better from a timing perspective. My Seniors team has the same players on both regular and seniors mixed. Since Seniors regular season is on Saturday at 10, mixed, Sunday at 1, there isn't any scheduling conflicts. But in the playoffs, another story. ALTA wants as much participation as possible but scenarios like this can make a person bitter about playing both individual leagues.

You can say what you want about USTA, but in my local league, if you had a team that was participating in a State Tourney and a regular season USTA match that same weekend, they would let you reschedule if the bulk of your players are at state.

But isn't this an issue with 2 different leagues? If yes, it sounds like some members of your team were stretched thin and needed to prioritize which league was more important.

well...we're out. It was great season but when you fight back and get into the playoffs like we did after dropping a 4-1 day, we accomplished a lot. To add to that we lost to the team that beat us earlier this year. Tough division and tough team. Whoever gets them in the finals next week will have their hands full no doubt. They are strong all the way through. My hat is off to them. We just have to learn from the mistakes we made and move forward this summer. Good luck to anyone's team who is playing next Saturday.

Holy crap!!! Just looked at the Men's league for the spring and realized our newly formed team is playing B-1 after we requested B-5, this should be fun. Looks like I will be playing lines 4 and 5 this season, lol.

Well, we won the big plate in Seniors Mixed but kind of in a crummy way. One of the men's doubles lines had someone sick so they had to forfeit that line. Since Seniors is only 4 lines, a forfeit automatically denies a team to play a 2-2 match tiebreak. So, we won the WD's line and it was over.
