Found one at Goodwill for $5, is it any good? Seems to be from the 90s. Feels good. Didn't know Wimbledon was in the racquet making business. Guess that didn't last long.

HM88? It was a popular racquet, probably Wimbledon's most popular, circa 1987-1989.
These were made by Kunnan (the parent company of Pro Kennex), and were excellent racquets, by the way.

Thanks Retro, wonder why they didn't become more popular.

BIG seller in Atlanta. I'm sure the local rep had much to do with the success in a given territory. Can't say there was a lot of consumer pull for that line; but a well placed teaching pro(me...for one year) could make a big difference at a club. The Wimbledon clothing did quite well for us during that period of green and purple clothes, grips, strings, etc.
Of course, the rackets came with the rather slick gray/ghost white leather grip, brittle grommets and chipping paint...all too common among white rackets of the late '80s-early '90s. |
