Hi, I am 16 and play tennis to a high level and play 5/6 times a week but do not have a coach or play in a squad, I just hit with other players of my standard 2-3 hours a day. I know I need to work certain shots but does anyone have an idea of how I can make a hit an effective practice session where I can really work on something, e,g my cross court forehand
Thanks guys |

Practice with a purpose. Tell your hitting buddies that you guys will only hit cross court until someone misses, or whatever else you want to work on. You all can even help each other with drills. One feeds, the other hits, then switch.
Just don't mindlessly hit. Have a purpose. |

Drill 1: You hit everything cross-court, and
your partner hits everything down the line Drill 2: You hit everything down the line, and your partner hits everything cross-court These above drills are great for practicing cross-courts and down the lines. Drill 3: You and your partner. Establish a forehand to forehand cross court rally, on a bit easier ball hit a winner down the line. Drill 4: Establish a backhand to backhand cross court rally, on a bit easier ball hit a winner down the line. Drill 5: Start a cooperative ground stroke rally in a single court. After six cooperation strokes, become competitive, and play out the point as you would in a match. Play lots of sets. Also focus on your physical conditioning. You may involve gym-work as well. |
