Wilson HYPER PROSTAFF 6.0 95 with the HPS6.1 95 Paintjob

Here are some photos of my Wilson Hyper ProStaff 6.0 95 with a paintjob of the HPS6.1 with the silver "w"s on the hoop (most HPS 6.0/6.1 paintjobs have the yellow "w"s). I think this is a great looking paintjob, and this is a rare racket, it is some sort of Pro stock from 2002.

Actually Roger Federer used this exact paintjob briefly at the start of 2002 on his PS85 racket, just before he started using his custom 90 racket (initially with the HPS6.0 with yellow "w"s paintjob), which he has seemingly used ever since throughout his career.

The first link has some great photos and info. about Federer's racket and paintjobs etc, if you are interested in that sort of thing.

I know some won't think of this as a classic racket, but it is related to the PS85 (definitely an all-time classic), it is an updated version of the PS95 basically (superb for slices I can promise you), and it has a fantastic paintjob in my opinion!

I know this is from the early 2000's, but I'm going to post some photos of some rackets from the late 1990's next week, which I also think are classics, I realise some may not have the same opinion.

I had the same inquiry and sought to answer this question via photo documentation.

If you're talking strictly regarding which PJ'd "retail' frame (i.e., the version marketed and/or made available to the public) that Federer actually used in match play, my conclusion is the following:

Federer used the PJ of the retail versions of BOTH the:

1) Wilson Hyper Prostaff (HPS) 6.1 95 with Silver W logo; and
2) Wilson Hyper Prostaff (HPS) 6.0 95 with Yellow W logo.

To be more specific, Federer used the HPS 6.1 95 with Silver W logo over his PS 6.0 85. Federer then used the HPS 6.0 95 with Yellow W logo over his custom 90 frame.

Now, what Jimbo has is very special - a PJ of an HPS 6.1 95 with Silver W over an HPS 6.0 95. This unique 95 sq. in. version was not available retail to my knowledge.

On an intersting side, yet related, note, is the fact that Federer never used the HPS 6.1 95 with Yellow W logo PJ on any of his frames. (A bit of background: the HPS 6.1 95 with Yellow logo retail version succeeded the HPS 6.1 95 with Silver W logo version.) Don't ask me why Wilson did this. In any case, I have yet to see a photo of Federer using the HPS 6.1 95 with yellow W, then again, I could be proved wrong as well (Jimbo or Equijet would probably know better.)

Phew! All this is probably confusing, I know. Then again, to some racket heads, including myself, completely lucid - and perhaps a bit obsessive!

i had 2 of these racquets back in 2006, bought both for $120 i think in the east bay, ca area. I thought they were nothing like the PS 85, lighter and it actually felt stiffer. But i do wish I held on to them, I still play with the PS85 and nothing compares.

I think that rather than the actual racket above you must be talking about the HPS 6.0 95 (based on the mold of the PS95)? Either that or the HPS 6.1 95 (based on the mold of the 6.1 classic 95). The above racket is actually a combination of both, that's why it is so rare!

Wow! That is amazing, that is the racket Federer fans are after it is very rare, and you had 2 of them

Is it possible for you to get in touch with the person you sold them to, to find out where they are now please?

I and many others would really like to see one of these!

A good point, I didn't consider there might be another racket under the paint of this, but I suppose it could easily be a PS95.

Anyway I've never tried this one, but I have used the standard HPS6.0 95 a few times and liked it. I'm one of the few that don't like the PS85 that much (apart from for serving), always thought it had a small sweetspot. This HPS and the PS95 are known I believe for having a larger dead area than normal at the top of the hoop, but that has never bothered me as I tend to hit the ball usually just below the sweetspot, rather than above.
