Oh, the Stockholm Syndrome of those living in the Pacific Northwest. All two days of your summers are nice.
Used to live up there and now would take an Arizona summer over one in the PNW. I can play tennis outside all year and in most cases the courts are free or a very nominal amount. As far as any of those cities to move to I would say Austin or San Antonio probably have the best weather and possibilities for tennis. |

Oh, so predictable. I lived in the PNW for 40 plus years so it is not like I don't know what I am talking about. 20 years in Oregon and 20 plus years in Washington.
Have to say don't know why I was so stupid for so long. I love Arizona. Actually just got back from playing tennis outdoors in 75 degree weather, had a beautiful view of Camelback Mountain and a nice glass of wine and late lunch afterwards. Nothing beats that. |

I just moved to Reno from Lake Tahoe and the tennis scene here is great! Lots of courts (I actually live at a tennis club/resort) and you're less than an hour from Lake Tahoe, the most beautiful place on the planet. 3 hours to San Francisco.

Reno is so close to hell you can see Sparks. But of course there is some fun tennis to be had there, especially when it barely snows in the winter.

Yea Austin has that "keep it weird" and liberal reputation........it's still Texas and for the most part except for a few really goofy tree hungers its not that liberal. Texas Democrats not in the same league with what you got in places like Boston, California and the NW.
Some of he old diehards love to perpetuate the myth that Austin is soooooo different - meh - Houston has had multiple female and Black mayors - current one openly gay. Last woman mayor of Austin was way back in the early 80s - most all since the late 90s old white guys - yeah all Democrats - big deal. Wanna see liberal check out the loons in inner city Houston and Dallas politics.....Sheila Jackson Lee (OMG what a disaster!) and her buds. |

Austin does have more crunchy types than any other large Texas city but its still relative.........Texas Democrats do not = what you have in Berkley or Madison or San Francisco.....not in the least. Our libs still drive huge SUVs, pack guns (most even have concealed carry permits)....etc. Hell if a kid even in Austin made a pistol shape out of a Pop Tart folks down here would give him the real thing and not suspend him from school. |

Other than that, I am with Gavna - we, in the South, are more of Conservative Liberals... Just like the Republicans elsewhere than here have more brains and understand reality... |

First off, Austin is a great city with a great economy, but very liberal and the housing market has lost its' mind. Austin has awesome tennis leagues but not so many public courts. Right outside of Austin, have you looked at Westlake, Cedar Park, or Leander?

Thanks for responses all, looks like sacramento is a possibility, along with San Diego (obviously the #1 tennis city IMO). Jobs in Texas/Portland didn't work out, will be moving at end of may, pretty much debating between SD, Sactown and Reno -- Best job in Reno but worried about QoL. No job in SD, so-so job in Sac.

Also it is so much less expensive to play here. No problem finding free courts. Have great courts in my neighborhood with a view of camelback mountain and the mcdowells. |

It will definitely snow in Reno during winter but then that's what separates the REAL tennis players from the posers!
http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showp...9&postcount=13 this is Reno Tennis Club at Washoe courts, (semi private club) , P.S. locals do not use high altitude balls - those are for the wimpy tourists! Elevation about 4400 ft. You said you like kayaking? There is a whitewater park downtown http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Sg4XKsc3Eo - right next to some courts too, (4 courts I believe) so go play a few hours of tennis then go jump in the river!
