How many quarter finals of slams had Rafter made before he won the US Open for the first time in 1997? Thanks for playing

wait.. didn't you say Isner doesn't need to do well in small events and it doesn't drive him to do well? I thought he won at least 3 majors when you said that, but only one quaterfinal which came from his home country? What was his results in Roland Garros, a clay event where he beat Federer and claimed he plays his best tennis at. What about Wimbledon?? He's not different from Karlovic.

As for your points on small events, he DOES need to do well in small events, but his talent doesn't allow him to do so.. that sucks, because he only has 1-2 year left in his career to show something..

If he can't win matches in ATP 250 events for 4 consecutive times, he can't do well in 1000 events or GS. It's as simple as that!

It is all about career progression Isner has had way better results in Masters than a journeyman like Karlovic! But let's not forget that John played college tennis so really his wheels are fresher than most 27 year olds and has time to take his game to the next level!

I agree that so far John has not lived up to his undoubted talent in the slams that is why it is important in the smaller events like 250s etc where he has more than proven himself throughout his career to look at the big picture and think about peaking for the majors. That is what it is all about now for John at this stage of his career.

I like John Isner, he is a proud WWE fan like myself. And he was also in attendance at Wrestlemania 25 in Houston Texas back in 2009, as I was.

From WWE webite

WWE.com: What's your favorite WWE match?

John Isner: Without a doubt WrestleMania XXV with Shawn Michaels vs. Undertaker in Houston. I was there for the event. In my opinion it was the greatest match of all time. I was devastated when HBK lost as he's my all time favorite.

WWE.com: Name your top two current Superstars you love to watch?

Isner: Alberto Del Rio and Randy Orton

WWE.com: How do you catch WWE when you’re on the road?

Isner: Well when I'm on the road in the states I always plan my Monday night around Raw. So either an early dinner or room service. When I'm out of the country I just have to catch highlights on WWE.com.

WWE.com: What’s the best way to utilize a tennis racquet in an Extreme Rules Match?

Isner: That's easy. Just grip it and rip it. Have a few hidden under the ring like the trash cans and kendo sticks. A shot should knock your opponent out.

WWE.com: What would your signature move be called?

Isner: Wow. That's a tough one. Some variation of either a powerbomb or chokeslam. I'd let WWE come up with a catchy nickname for my finisher.

John littered up the stat sheet last night but still posted a win this is the real sign of a champion being able to come through even on an off day! He fired down 28 aces and 48% point on 2nd serve returns these are ominous stats for the rest of the tour!

I agree it will be nice if John can make a run this week but in reality it's all about the big picture for John now and peaking for the major.

Great performance from John tonight! Serve and groundies were both looking in great touch on this form he's going to be very tough to stop at the big events in 2013!

Highlights vs Levine. Really can't understand why so many people seem to think his game is boring, or he's just a serve blah blah. This was exciting tennis from John.

Fantastic win for John last night against the big man Anderson John's serve looked unstoppable and he was not broken he also won 53% points on 2nd serve return these figures are very ominous for the rest of the tour.

Decent run from John in Florida, dipped his feet in the water got some matches under his belt and is now ready for another tilt at the title in IW which he was close to winning last year!

You are a funny fan, hyping Isner no end and then swallowing bad losses meekly. I am sure you've never even heard of the guy he lost to in his last match. But if 'decent' is good enough for you, good for you. I will grant he is a decent player.

I was commenting on John's efforts this week. Given it's his 3rd tournament back from injury it is a satisfactory showing as I have said before it is all about the big picture now for John, he knows that his career is going to be defined by his performances in the majors and the masters.

Isner won't win IW. I would put money on Gulbis winning a masters before John does.

Greatest Poast on this thread.

I think his signature should be the Isner Slam.

I can understand being fan, but if we are objective, it is painfully obvious that Isner has way too many weaknesses in his game to be a Slam contender. His horrible return of serve, along with his slow movement are enough to kill his chances.

If it were not for an incredible serve he would have lost in straight sets to a guy ranked outside of the top 100 in a 250 event.

I was thinking maybe he was working for media relations company that is hired by Isner team to keep his name around on public forums.

So ark_28 how about those damn apples?

Looks like Isner is heading into his worst season since he broke the Top 30.
