String job error? CAP grommets, pic

I got my ancient PC600 strung up and noticed in 3 spots the strings haven't snapped into the CAP grommets properly.



My question is: Is this a known fault with CAP grommet stringing?

Yep - happens especially often with older, original Cap grommets. There is little enough space, and as the Caps get brittle - no give.
I enjoy early Prestige Pros, some with original caps, and I resort to a kitchen knife to pry open space enough for string to pass - especially in low tensioned areas in the CAP.
Yep - very common... The newer grommets accomodate with a wider passage area.

Yes, it happens, just keep an eye on it when stringing.

First time i strung my racket after installing the Cap grommets, i would hear a snap when applying tension, later i realized was the string snapping from the position it is on your picture to the right position.

It was done by a professional stringing shop, I paid $20 for it. What can I do, is it grounds for a free string job?

I would say it depends on whether or not the shop recommended those strings for that racquet. You may have grounds for negotiation. They may offer free labor, where you buy narrower gauge strings.

Was my own strings, but they are 17L/18 gauge.

I would still ask about it. Don't expect them to offer you anything other than advice. Then again, they may offer a coupon or something.

I remember this happened years ago too and when I tried playing with it, I heard the snap and after that the strings seemed to have lost a lot of tension.

Can anybody hazard a guess on how much tension will be lost when the 3 of these errors snap into their proper positions?

In that position on the frame, that should not have happened, especially with 17 gauge or less. At that position, with a normal tension pull, the string should snap through just fine. If it didn't, the stringer should know that. If this was a normal 50 - 65 pound stringing, then I'd say that they did not come close to a pro job. You will lose substantial tension once it snaps in place...

Only when the stringer does not know what they are doing. It was stringer error.
