Well, to help reduce my high blood pressure I've been extracting cucumbers, celery and carrots and drink the juice. Actually, with ice and a little OJ the juice tastes very good.
Anyone done that? I can't imagine any negative effect from consuming vegetable juice. It'd take a week for anyone to consume the amount of veggies that is used to get 64 oz of juice which you can finish in one day. What other veggies are good for this purpose? |

Where did you find out that these 3 vegetables are good for lowering BP?

^^ one can't always be certain there's a beneficial BP effect. Eat too much licorice root, for example, and your blood pressure could shoot up (due to glycoyrrhizin found in the root). I'd keep track of my BP as you don't want it to remain elevated too long, if that's the case.

I have been drinking BLENDED vegetable/fruit juice for breakfast for over a year now.
in my last physical, I had better Cholesterol, Blood Pressure and a healthier Heart than 2005. I feel fitter, more mentally alert and sleep better. Yes, I am a convert. I use a complete cross section of organic greens and fruit - whatever's in the fridge, basically a mix of the following: - Kale - Broccoli - Celery - Spinach - Tomatoes - Carrots - Ginger - Apples - Pineapple (for taste) - Kiwi - Seeds (if I feel like it) Key is to use one of the thickening ingredients as well (or you just end up with "grassy" watery sludge: - Bananas - Avocado - Mango Add generous amount of water and a bit of ice. Use a high power blender, like a Vitamix.

A friend who has a brother as a doctor and has high bp. He's doing the same thing and swearing by it. I'm not sure about carrot and OJ (those are for taste) but celery and cucumber seem refreshing and harmless enough. I'm tracking my bp.

Nothing too bad can come out of increasing your vegetable intake, although I hate to see all that nutritious pulp go to waste. I think you'll notice you're BP going down because of an overall healthier diet though. I love juicing beets, spinach, jalapenos, apples and chia seed.

Those ingredients sound ..exotic. But seriously have you been tracking your healthy status since you started juicing? If I don't see any benefits I tend to quit. Where do you guys get chia seeds? |

I can't say that I've had any noticeable benefits. I'm in the Military so I exercise daily and keep myself in shape anyway so I'm not sure what I'm getting aside from my daily vitamins which are crucial.

Be sure to get your blood pressure under control.
I had a friend who dropped dead (? stroke or heart attack) at 39 whose only known medical problem was high blood pressure. His widow shocked us with the news of his death when she came to the tennis courts to tell us. She said his only medical problem was high blood pressure, but that he didn't like the idea of taking medication, so he didn't. |

Fuga, LOL.
Charlie, that's scary. You know, hbp problem is more common than I thought. Once I started paying attention and talking to people around me, more than half have this problem. I was suprised to know. I remember hearing one 60-something man say that his hbp was necessary for him to function! His reason was that at his advanced age the normal bp would make him sluggish and tired! A weird thing about bp is that the more active you are, the lower it becomes. It tends to be going up at night when you lay in bed! |
