Has anyone ever tried this hybrid? Any idea what I can expect from this hybrid?
I got a pack of each. Not sure if they make a good mix. The X-One is 1.30 mm gauge and the 4G is 1.25 mm. Which should I put in the mains and which in the cross? |

I can tell you that if you put the co-poly strings on the mains that the X one-biphase will be shredded to bits. My 13 yo daughter plays with this set up, except uses 17G technique black code co-poly and if the x-phase even last 5 days thats a good week. Has anyone tried the reverse, x-phase in mains and co-poly in crosses. I am currently looking for an alternative but I don't want to to replace the x-phase with synthetic gut, thats what most tell me but I think you lose to much feel plus with the knotching you tend to see with Syn-G it will negate any spin benefit from the co-poly.

Since the mains will take the brunt of the punishment, if you put the X-one in for the mains, they will break even faster most likely. If they are lasting 5 days as the crosses, I would suspect they would last about 2 or 3 days as the mains.
Why don't you try using another multi instead of syn gut. Wilson Sensation will be more durable and is a good price for the quality. |

that is one option I was considering to stay with a multi but find less expensive optiion then the x-one biphase like your suggestion of the Wilson sensation 16G ($9.95) or even the Head RIP Control 16G ($7.50). Also, plan to switch to a smooth co-poly vs using the current black code (17G) which is shaped, I think this adds to the early breakage of the multi... any smooth co-poly suggestions

Well there are tons of options in the poly market for strings. The Tourna strings get good reviews and are a good price. I am using Black Code right now in one racquet, and Wilson Spin Cycle in another. Both are nice, but Spin Cycle is cheaper. Of course, they are both textured polys, which I guess isn't what you are looking for.
How much more life are you looking for out of your strings? I don't think going from Black Code to a smooth is really going to make that much difference. If you like it, just stick with it and find a cheaper multi that you like. Sensation 16g is a good deal when you buy the reel or mini-reels of it. Tecnifibre also has soon cheaper multi's that are probably pretty good too. |

gut/4g is a nice hybrid, i don't see why X1/4g would be much different.
Put X1 in the mains, 4G in the crosses. Prestretch the X1. Do not prestretch the 4G. |

Doesn't get much more expensive for a non-gut hybrid though! You might not want to like it.

I am not sure what kind of effect is aimed for with this method. Since for a hybrid setup only half of each string set is used, I can always use the other half for another racquet and reverse the mains and crosses so that I can compare both setups. |

There is no need to pre-stretch the poly. It basically doens't stretch any anyways, so if you did try to pre-stretch it might just go dead even faster than it already does.
Many people pre-stretch a multi string like X-One since it helps to retain it's tension longer....at least that is what the theory behind it is. I personally do not pre-stretch, but that is just me. |

You don't have to prestretch, but as bb said it's for tension maintenance only. X1 loses tension pretty fast. On the other hand, 4G holds tension very well.
Initial play quality will probably be best with no prestretching at all, but good luck getting more than a few hitting sessions with X1. It won't break, it will just start to sag and you will start to suck. |
