Wink Yonex = weak WTA serves

Kournikova, Dementieva and Hingis...maybe it's the racquets.

They should all switch to PS 6.0 mid and serve bombs like pierce.

It's never the racquets. We all know that. Maybe these racquets are used by women who need extra help with their power like Hingis. Maybe the racquets are making them more competitive. Or mabe they have tons a cash rollin in from Yonex.

I think there is a pattern there which also applies to players like Nalbandian and hewitt. The Yonex pancake flipper shaped frames tend to be lame in the upper hoop and thats where many better players hit their serves. The Yonex frame that Pierce uses and Ancic uses is more conventional in shape. I realize there are exceptions like Johanssen and in the old days Krajcak but those dudes needed the control on the serve more than the power as they could generate huge power with anything.

Joachim Johannson is the ultimate antithesis to this idea. Mario Ancic. Nicole Vaidisova (who has a monster serve).

But Yonex players do generally have powerful and soild groundstrokes.

well dementieva is a different story, but kournikova would have had a much better serve had it not been for her mom interfering w/ bolletieri's teachings.

You think so? Many of the Yonex women have the punishing groundstrokes that set them apart from even the rest of the flat-blasting WTA. Dementieva, Vaidisova, Hantuchova, Pierce, all have penetrating, commanding groundies superior to those of most of the WTA.

Not to generalize however. There are of course exceptions, such as Hingis and Kirilenko (but her looks make up for it tenfold).

Elena CAN actually crank up her serve into the respectable 110s, just not consistently so she'd rather not take the risk. I think this thread is answered.

Seems like you are blaming the racquets for lack of pace. Do you remember Richard Krajicek and Double J from Sweden?
