Default Rotator cuff soreness after serve practice?

Is this normal after serve practice or is my racquet too stiff (PS 6.0 85)? What strengthening exercise is good for protecting the rotator cuff from injury?

if your arm isnt like super in shape, its normal, overuse of anything will make the muscle sore, the rotator cuff isnt the strongest of muscles int he first place, very easy to tear, so its not a shock at all.
Tread Softly

Mate, let me be the first one to say..... have some time off and try and strengthen the muscles. Ever since that dreaded day about 5 months ago have i been regretting over doing tennis, playing every day for about 2 hours and serving 100 balls each session in a row. I haven't hit a serve since and its really beginning to depress me

I found some good exercises at:
http://www.orthoassociates.com/shoulder1.htm
http://www.thestretchinghandbook.com...uff-injury.htm
http://www.orthoassociates.com/shoulder1.htm

and especially http://familydoctor.org/265.xml

I found the best plan of action was to begin to take anti-inflammatory pills to rid myself of pain that was being caused because of the strengthening exercises so that i could actually complete these exercises. You should also consider seeing a physio before you do even more damage.

Also it will do you good in the long run if you ice off your shoulder after each time you play. It will greatly reduce inflammation.

Good Luck

I am flexible, strong, and with good technique, but my shoulder still gets sore on occasion. Even though my serve is pretty good I get many days that I just can't stand to hit serves. I have come to the conclusion that it just isn't a natural movement, my evidence, even the biggest and best servers get shoulder problems. Look at Philippoussis, Ivanisevic, and Krajicek, they all have pure mechanics, but every last one of them has been plagued by some problem in their arm at one time or another.

Have you had personal experience of these working. I think I might give them a go as I too have problems

I had this too, just take a week or two off. Completely off. Don't hit one ball. Your shoulder should heal up. That's what I did.

Well i've been doing these exercises for about 3 months now and i can feel my shoulder getting stronger gradually. I do each one of those exercises once a day and plan on doing this for a while longer. I think a week might be a bit short if its as bad as mine. When i first injured myself, i went back to play the week after and made it worse So make sure you take off as much time as possible
