Doland Young in USOpen Juniors

Loses in first round again... is this kid an ATP Pro or a struggling junior player?

this kid is 14 and lost to a seed in a 3rd set tie-break. I saw Donald practicing at the us open, and he's the real deal. His serve is a weakness right now, but he's still growing and getting stronger. Think about when you turned 18 and how much stronger you felt than when you were 14. Big difference.He has tons of time. He was also a nice kid.

As I said before I saw him practicing at the Open and the guy did not impress me at all. He takes practice more lightly than Safin and that tells something about him.. He wasn't concentrated or anything, just joking around when the other guy was killing him slowly...

I saw him at the open and talked to him and his mother briefly. Theyre both very nice and friendly people he seems unaffected by the hype. He's obviously talented, but not on the scale of Michael Chang or Nadal at that age. He's 15 and plays like a good 15 year old. He's not the best US junior right now and it would be impossible to predict that he's even gonna be on the ATP tour in the top 100. But it's unfair to blame him for all the hype. He'll probably be successful in life even though I doubt he'll be much of a tennis pro.

I saw him practicing on Kids' Day & 1 other day & he didn't impress me @ all. Whomever his hitting partner was showed more promise then Young did. It was very nonchalant & unimpressive. Vlad when did you see Young practice? Might it have been one of the practices I was @?

Did you see him practicing w/a player of Asian decent? Both Saturday & Monday when I saw him practicing he had another junior? with him, no one was sure who he was though.

It's beem posted why he truned "pro". He can keep endorsement money but still play junior tourneys. I think I read he admits he is not ready for main draw competition but this allows him to earn money via endorsements to pay for his training and travel. Everything I have seen indicates he is a very nice well grounded young man.

i saw him practice on thursday with jennifer capriati. he didn't seem too excited, didn't seem to have much energy out there. hit pretty well, though. he handled most of capriati's shots just fine.

Hey the kid split sets with the number 7 seed and lost the third on a close tie-break. That ain`t bad. Come on ,give the kid a break.

He is also an ATP pro.. he should be taking it to the 1st seed, not splitting sets with the number 7 seed lOl

Well he should've beaten the guy. Listen to these stats: Donald's first serve obviously isn't that great, so why the heck is he serving at 49%? No aces 5 double faults, but he's winning 74% of 1st serve points and 60% of 2nd serve. Pretty good stat there. 50% break point conversions, and he won 4 more points than the other guy. Can't hack it little Donald, maybe it's your little earing that pisses me off. Why does everyone get an earing nowadays? He got an earing when he was like 13, the fools at my school who got them at least waited til like 15 or 16. But didn't he win the Orange Bowl 18's or something? That's some damn good junior competition, he should be doing a lot better in the junior slams

Donald is 15 years and 2 months old. I've never seen him, but I understand that he's about 5' 9", and about 140 lbs. So he's a bit smaller than Capriati. Would you expect her to compete with a fully grown male?

From memory, he won Les Petits A's 14's tournament in France in January 2003. This is the biggest tournament in the world after the Orange Bowl. He won the 16's Orange Bowl in December 2003 even though he was eligible for the 14's.

These are serious achievements. He'd hardly be able to do this if he wasn't very good.

Thats the point he is a child not a Professional Tennis Player, hes not a Lebron James or a Freddy Adu. Those two could turn pro at young ages and be successfull but obviously Donald Young cant and wont be able to compete at a Pro level for years to come.

Capriati definitely weighs more than 135. 5'8 135 would be very light, considering the height, and she definitely has some meat and muscle on dem bones.

First of all the guy he lost to Sergiy Stakhovsky from the Ukraine is currently ranked #501 on the ATP tour in singles. It's not like he played some chump first round who can't play. Sure he was the #7 seed in the junior tournament, but I would bet almost every seed at the Junior open has atp points.

The guy he lost to is also 3 years older so just give the kid a little time to progress and work on his game. People aren't hyping him for no reason, he obviously has talent which needs to be molded over the next few years. The biggest problem with Donald right now is that he lacks weapons, but he has plenty of time to develop weapons in the next few years. On the tour you have to be able to hurt someone at the very least with your forehand, backhand, and serve to do well. You have to have a well rounded game and he is on the correct path right now.

You guys are going to feel pretty stupid in about three years when this guy is a legit pro. This reminds me a lot of the James Blake posts a couple of years ago when he got his Nike contract. Lots of posts about how he was no good, Nike was crazy, etc. etc. That was before Blake won some titles and those posts went away. Oh yeah, as Hewitt would say...do you see the similarities ?

I don't see him in the USOpen or anything worthy.. Oh i do remember he lost to Alex Bogotomov Jr or something heheh
