Agassi: spanning the generations

I love reading Agassi's interviews and comments concerning today's generation vs yesterday's for the simple fact that he's really the only guy who's transcended so many generations of players. He's really the only guy who has probably .beaten both Federer and Sampras in their prime. In addition, he competed against the Lendls, Wilanders, and Jim Couriers. Heck, he even played against connors and mcenroe, though they were way past their prime. So when he showers Federer with praise...that to me really carries the most weight.

I am not ashamed to admit, that for many, many years I was the first to scorn Andre for squandering his talent and putting image over performance. Well, that was in the past, and I have to give Andre Agassi all the credit in the world for turning his life around and his dedication to the game around.

Who knows, maybe if Andre conducted himself in the manner that he does now back when he was a teen, he would have been long retired. Maybe Andre is still here, still doing his thing, because he travelled such a long and winding road.

All I do know, is that currently, Andre is the epitome of a professional athlete. In this case, it just happens to be my favorite sport, tennis. There is nothing not to like about the current incarnation of Andre. He's an honest man, a thoughtful man, and a family man. He's also a fierce competitor and is humble in defeat. Andre has earned my respect over the years, and I find myself rooting for him in almost every match he plays. Now that's a complete turnaround for me as well.

I hope the A-train can take one final ride to the US Open title. He deserves it, and we the fans deserve to see it!

It would be classic if Agassi could win the Open one last time. Since Federer got a walkover, maybe Agassi could get a walkover XD

I have been an Agassi fan for 16 years now. I would love to see him win the Open again, I just hope he doesn't beat Fed and then get beaten by Roddick in the finals.

I think Agassi is definitely the sentimental favorite. It would truly be fitting if he could pull out one more grand slam win at his age. If he can beat Federer...he definitely deserves it.

Regarding the possibility of an Agassi-Roddick final, I'm sure the TV people would be salivating at such a prospect. That would definitely be an electrifying atmosphere.

federer will spank agassi tomorrow. agassi has never been a clutch player. hes always the bridemaid in big matches. did he ever beat sampras at the us open? and spanning the generations? connors played doubles with pancho gonzalas, and played against rod laver, john newcombe, stan smith, bjorn borg, mcenroe,lendl,becker,edberg,agassi,and sampras. now thats spanning the generations.
