I say that because it really is bad enough that Elena Dementieva could make two grandslam finals in one year without a viable serve, but it would be horrendous if she actually won one.
True, the rest of Elena's game is rock solid. True, she is in great physical shape and can run all day. However, it really is depressing that any player, man or woman, could be so successful at tennis without being able to hit the single most important shot in the game. The serve is that shot. The player's on the WTA tour should invest a lot more time in developing their serves. Not only would it be beneficial to them, but it would also be beneficial to the game in general. |

Her serve is messed up because of a SKIING ACCIDENT early this year. She f'ed up her shoulder really badly. I don't know exactly what happened but I dislocated my shoulder earlier in the year and it hurt my tennis game A LOT. I had to change my service motion and I couldn't bring my elbow any higher than my shoulder for months.
SHUT THE **** UP ABOUT HER SERVE She'd wipe the floor with you any day and she is a great player. |

Yes, we know that she has a great game (other than her serve), but as we saw tonight, if a player is willing to attack that serve, it does make her vulnerable. I have no doubt, that as soon as Dementieva develops a decent serve, she'll be contending for the #1 position. Just think how much easier it would be for her to have a return that isn't rocketed back at her?

perfmode she's always served like that. I saw her last year at a tourney and she still served sidearm like that.

Perf, Did you lose a bet or something? You sound so angry. Her serve is brutal. Did you see how good she looked good in red tonight! Those shorts, long legs, oooh weee!
News flash to Elaina, work on your serve! If you improve it you're gonna win a major. Out. |

I feel the same as Pefmode, it's getting a bit old now all this stuff about her serve.
We know why it happens, I saw her 4 years ago and it wasn't like it is now at all. Different serves work for different players, like Hewitt and Agassi's set their games up well without having express pace. Her serve works for her at the moment and i'm sure it will evolve with her game. So for now, just back of her a bit. -Liam |

Perfmode and Liam: "Da Nile ain't just a river in Egypt!"
Her serve is pathetic. Her shoulder has been completely healed for a long time. Her toss is two feet out to the right. When she tosses the ball correctly, her motion is fine, but she misses. It is all just mental right now, just like the two of you. |

Elena's serve is a disgusting display of a pro who refuses to learn good form. I have no problem with Elena using that slice serve of hers as part of her arsenal every once in a blue, but to use that toss to the far right slice serve on every serve, is absolutely pathetic.
