Is there any default circumstance (where one player pulls out before the match starts) where the prevailing player earns points for that match?
This situation is that players are pulling out of matches they know they can't win, just to avoid the loss on their record. Unfortunately, the other player is penalized in that they don't have the chance for the points associated with that match. |

Well in the ATP if one player pulls out before a match, the player scheduled to play the player that pulled out still gets the points and prize money for getting to that round. Idk about other places though. :/

If we are talking about USTA points (which I assume that we are), any kind of default gives you points just like a win.
On a side note, it really ticks me off when someone who is not very good gets into a weak designated and then gets a default first round so they get enough points to get into other ones over more deserving people. |
