Default Andy Murray ranking after toranto

From the current ranking points and last year's performance at Montreal, if Andy wins Toronto he will be ranked #3 player in the world. It was 22.03.2010 when was Rafa ranked #4 for a week.

#3 or 4 doesn't make much difference, in terms of seeding at any rate. Rafa would still be #3 in the race rankings though.

With Nadal's injury and Murray in great form i'd been thinking it was a possibility at some point. I didn't expect it to be mathematically possible so soon though. It doesn't change much I suppose, he will still get the number 1 or 2 seed in the semi's in the majors, that's what it's about these days

And taking it a step further, regardless of how you mix them around, the top 4 guys are gonna be Fed, Novak, Rafa, and Andy. The same 4 guys are gonna be making the semis and facing each other in some combination, regardless of which number each guy has at the time, so it kind of doesn't matter which number you've got. Even if Murray somehow got to #2, would playing a #3-ranked Novak be any easier than playing him when he was #2 and Andy was #4?

Going for ranking at this point seems kind of pointless, from a practical standpoint.

All true. I think it would be more of a mental thing for Murray. He's kind of seen as a bit of an outsider from the big 3, to break them up in the rankings and be ahead of one of them would be a big confidence boost I think. It will show him he's improving and that there is hope, i'm sure he knows he can hang with them and he belongs there. He's a hard worker and we saw after the Wimbledon final how much he wants it.

it doesn't really matter. It won't change anything. Andy needs to win his first major. that's all that it matters.

Don't know if it's just coincidence but it does seem to matter.
Murray invariably gets tough draws and especially scheduling.
Never seems to get to play his first round matches first.
This became a real problem for him at the USO 2008 final where he had no break between semi and final.
No. 3 nearly always has a better draw and scheduling.
That just might be due to an unlucky streak though.

Actually, history shows that there is some uncertainty in that particular match-up, as Federer has won some (although not that many, admitedly).

If you wanted a formula that sticks in the minds of people reading it, you should have gone for the foolproof, 100%-accurate one, ie

The sky is blue and Nadal loses to Rosol at the slams.

Oh, and you're welcome!

It'd be a pretty good achievement for the Muzz. At any rate, I can see him winning his first slam soon and settling in at Number 3.

The only difference is that it means that he's not doing as well and is closer to No. 5

That is true, I was talking from the perspective of Draw advantage, snipped that bit by mistake.

What happened to all of this? More importantly, is there any way I can get it to happen in all threads?
